Full-Time Barista
Job Description
We are seeking a select few confident baristas ready to work in a plant-filled, sunlight-drenched, high-volume cafe that balances crisp presentation with a cozy, family feel. Get in on the ground floor of Yanni’s Coffee in Chelsea and join our small team as we gear up for opening day.
We are proud of our state-of-the-art equipment (La Marzocco, Mahlkonig, and Square Register) and the organic character of the cafe’s design, like the reclaimed wood of our espresso bar, and we think you will be too.
Baristas will be serving single origin coffee roasts from one of the best local roasters out of Brooklyn and special in house baked goods, with exceptional care for our customers.
Required Qualifications
You have 1-4 years experience in high volume cafe service or another food & beverage business.
You are kind-hearted, courteous, full of positive spirit and interested in getting to know people.
You take ownership of your work with pride and pay great attention to detail.
You are resilient when the shop is busy and work diligently during quieter hours.
You know coffee like the back of your hand and are happy to answer questions to engage locals in the science and stories behind what we brew.
You take great care of customers and all equipment so the cafe can grow successfully and, in turn, take good care of you.
Preferred Qualifications
You can tell if the espresso pull is off just by watching and can skillfully adjust for a perfect shot.
You can make incredible latte art in every cup, and you are determined to hone your craft.
You’ve had training in Latte Art & Espresso Dialing from a pro coffee lab and can teach others.
You have a valid Food Handling Certificate from the NYC Department of Health.
Duties & Expectations
Welcome all and provide great customer service, anticipating needs and addressing all with warmth and respect.
Share responsibility for the store in terms of ambiance, cleanliness, and equipment maintenance.
Arrive alert and ready to do great work, inspire the team to meet and exceed cafe goals, consistently set the tone for a positive and empowering work environment.
Complete daily checklists and adhere to all policies including cash deposit procedures, beverage recipes, food safety policies as instructed.
Grow coffee science knowledge by participating in education opportunities, reading coffee trade blogs or publications, visiting local roasting labs, or attending cuppings.
Create lasting bonds with regulars to create a culture of community and a welcoming environment.
