Full-Time Barista @ The Local Hostel
Job Description
We’re looking for enthusiastic, outgoing, and passionate baristas for the cafe/bar of what is going to be NYC’s coolest hostel. We’ll interview everyone from USBC Champions to someone who just really enjoys the vibe and buzz of a great coffee shop. You bring the right attitude and love of coffee, and we’ll teach you how to do the rest.
The position will entail coffee/espresso/tea making (obviously) as well as light food prep. You’ll work closely with the owners as part of our opening team to develop our coffee and beverage program. You’ll be working primarily on your own during a shift, so self-motivation and trustworthiness are a must. A large part of the job is interacting with guests, conveying excitement about the food and drink but also NYC generally. You’ll play an important role in our front of house team representing The Local Hostels and setting the mood for guests.
Baristas also may be cross-trained to work as bartenders or receptionists as operations progress. You’ll be fully trained to use a La Marzocco Linea, a Bunn ICB Brewer, a Bunn G3 grinder, Mazzer espresso grinders as well as our POS system. We’re looking for people to work up to 40 hours/week. Pay starts at $10/hour.
About The Local Hostel
Opening in December 2013, The Local NYC is the flagship property of The Local Hostels chain. Located in the ‘Flour District’ of LIC, Queens, The Local boasts excellent subway access and is only one stop from Midtown Manhattan. A fifteen thousand square foot renovated turn-of-the-century factory has been converted to 37 guest rooms with a guest kitchen, study space, a café/bar and a roof deck terrace. The hostel is closely connected to the LIC community and neighborhood and aims to give tourists from around the world a high quality local experience. We want our guests to feel like friends visiting from out of town. Service is of the utmost importance and we want to ensure that, with our help and advice, all guests have a uniquely New York experience during their visit. Our café and bar provides the ideal space for locals and guests to connect over locally brewed beers while enjoying the hostel’s programmed events or community exhibitions. Most of our rooms consist of four bunked beds with an ensuite bathroom to ensure a social experience while maintaining a quality sleep environment.
