Senior Retail Manager:
Irving Farm is looking for a talented individual to join our NYC cafes at the senior management level. This is a full time salaried position.
Irving Farm New York was founded in 1996 by two college friends, Steve and David, when they opened a tiny neighborhood café on Irving Place in Gramercy Park. They began roasting out of a converted carriage house in Dutchess County soon after, and over 20 years later Irving Farm has grown into one of New York’s most beloved hometown roasters with six cafés, a bustling wholesale business, a state-of-the-art SCA Certified Training & Education Loft, a brand new Roastery & Tasting Room, and a green coffee buying program that focuses on direct relationships with farmers, sustainable practices and a philosophy of quality over quantity.
Position Summary – Achieve great retail financial performance and customer satisfaction by leading (coaching and inspiring) your store and support teams.
Roles and responsibilities:
● Inspect stores regularly and ensure corrective action is taken as necessary (short-term and long-term)
● Examine staff regularly, including their work product, and ensure corrective action is taken as necessary (short-term and long-term)
● Review and approve staff schedules regularly and ensure corrective action is taken as necessary (short-term and long-term)
● Utilize all information available, including financial reports and information systems, to inform recommendations and actions
● Pitch in where necessary to achieve great results, including speaking up and thoughtfully highlighting opportunities to CEO
● Project manage and implement corporate programs
● Manage support resources to optimize business performance (HR, education, store managers, ordering manager, maintenance, accounting and IT support)
● Complete or delegate store management tasks (hiring, training, employee management, receiving product, cash management,) as needed
Outcomes:
● Increased sales through better customer experience (product, service, décor), Faster throughput, higher check averages
● Decrease costs…
○ COGS through less waste, reduce “shrinkage”, portion control, etc.
○ Payroll through better scheduling, lower turnover…less training
○ Other, e.g. utilities, through tighter management
○ Standardize all aspects of the business…this makes our company easier to manage, but should not jeopardize other goals
Qualifications:
● 2 years experience in similar position
● Strong leadership skills
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
● Proficient knowledge with google sheets and excel
● Proficient knowledge in specialty coffee a plus
● Detail oriented
Compensation:
● $70k – 80k annual salary DOE
● 2 weeks PTO annually
