Driftaway Coffee is a BIPOC woman-led small-batch coffee roastery based in Brooklyn, sourcing coffee from smallholder farmers around the world. We are working to build an equitable value chain by prioritizing women & minority producers, and want to make coffee accessible and fun for all.
Founded in 2014 and initially focused on direct to consumer, Driftaway Coffee has grown rapidly over the years and expanded into gifting and corporate events via virtual tastings. We are well-funded by our customers, and have been covered in various press and media like The Today Show, WSJ, Gear Patrol, Strategist, and Inc. magazine.
Job Description
We are currently seeking an experienced and charismatic specialty coffee professional (part-time) as a Coffee Educator and Social Media Specialist. This role will be 24 hours/week, mostly remote, on a Thursday through Saturday schedule for virtual coffee classes, social media shoots/curation, and occasional in-person events. In-person required for a 2 hour in-office shoot for Social every Thursday or Friday. Apart from occasional in-person events, everything else required for this role is remote.
Requirements
Educator
– 3 to 5-years experience in the specialty coffee industry
– Past experience hosting and leading coffee cuppings and knowledgable in all things related to specialty coffee (seed-to-cup, processing, brewing, origins, etc)
– Excellent verbal communication skills
– High energy, charismatic and tech-savvy personality
– Extremely organized and detail-oriented
Social Media
– Proven experience creating video content in a similar role (in a company’s account or personal)
– Informed about industry trends, emerging technologies like Instagram & TikTok, and changes in social media platforms
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills
– Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities
– Analytical mindset with proficiency in social media analytics tools
– Familiarity with graphic design and video editing tools is a plus
Responsibilities
Educator
– Review bookings and work with team members to prepare for all scheduled tastings
– Show up to virtual tastings early and come ready to put on a high-energy tasting
– Engage with customers and help prepare them for how the event will work, including setting up, tasting, and clean up.
– Host multiple types of coffee tastings (short 15 minutes up to 75 minute events), taking participants through a coffee tasting
– Gather any necessary wrap-up details and connect with the Support team to ensure follow-ups are completed
Social Media
– Research and analyze industry trends, audience behaviors, and peer activities to inform strategy.
– Working with our team, develop and curate engaging content for various social media platforms, including text, image, and video content, ensuring that content is consistent with Driftaway ethos and resonates with the target audience.
– Assist with engaging with the online community, responding to comments, messages, and mentions promptly and in a professional manner.
– Foster a positive online community by encouraging conversations and addressing customer inquiries and concerns.
– Stay up-to-date with changes in algorithms, features, and best practices on each platform.
– Working with our team, plan and execute social media campaigns, contests, and promotions to increase brand awareness and engagement.
Skills

– Familiar with web-based software and video conferencing tools, especially Zoom

Compensation
$25 to $30 per hour based on experience, start date ASAP no later than March 1 2024
