Full-Time Assistant Manager
Job Description
Common Hours is a new specialty coffee shop in midtown Manhattan with a focus on quality, accessibility, and inclusivity. The space is slated to open mid-August, and we’re looking for experienced assistant manager candidates to help establish and develop a detail-oriented and welcoming environment while overseeing and inspiring a small team of baristas. This role would benefit from candidates that have a vision of and genuine interest in the future of the coffee industry.
What You’ll Do:
1. Lead & Support the Team
– Collaborate with the manager to inspire, train, and motivate a high-performing team—your goals include staff development and delivering standout hospitality.
– Act as the manager’s right hand during service and take the lead in their absence, maintaining standards and flow.
2. Hospitality & Guest Experience
– Provide exceptional hospitality to guests, offering communication, coffee education, and ensuring drink accuracy.
– Taste and test beverages alongside your baristas to preserve quality, and resolve guest needs or questions proactively.
3. Operations, Finance & Standards
– Assist with opening/closing procedures, ensure administrative tasks are completed, and maintain inventory and stock levels.
– Focus on financial performance using KPIs—spot opportunities for efficiency and revenue optimization.
– Uphold top-tier cleanliness, equipment maintenance, food safety, and compliance standards.
4. Craft & Beverage Excellence
– Craft and serve specialty coffee using diverse brewing methods—ensuring high standards of taste and presentation.
– Continue your journey in coffee expertise through tasting sessions, cuppings, and internal training.

Requirements & Qualifications:
* Experience in barista roles; leadership experience (shift lead or assistant manager) highly preferred.
* Proficiency in specialty coffee preparation; structured training and cupping experience a strong plus.
* Ability to handle physical aspects: lifting (up to ~50 lb), standing long hours, maintaining equipment cleanliness.
* Open availability for weekday, weekend, and some holiday shifts.
