Variety Coffee Roasters is a New York specialty coffee roaster founded in 2008 as a single cafe in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Today we serve our roasted coffee at 9 of our own shops across New York City, as well as with over dynamic wholesale partners big and small. At Variety, we believe that coffee should be fun. While we take our coffee seriously, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. Seriously.

The ideal Variety cafe is welcoming, unpretentious and fun. Variety is seeking a barista who’s excited about to help us cultivate that type of space across all of our 9 retail locations. The Float Barista will support the retail program by working scheduled shifts at all locations, as well as covering open shifts across the city, instead of at one ‘home’ cafe. The Float Barista will not be guaranteed any set schedule, but should be prepared to work a minimum of 3 shifts a month in order to be considered an active employee.

Responsibilities Include:
Preparing high quality and consistent coffee and tea drinks
Basic cash handling
Maintaining overall cleanliness of the cafe (both behind the bar and on the floor) in compliance with NYC DOH standards
Overall upkeep of facilities (ie sweeping and/or shoveling sidewalks, etc)
Dynamic teamwork and cooperation
Excellent customer service driven by warmth, quality, and speed
Occasional scheduling for off-site events

Requirements:
1 year of specialty coffee experience
Must be available to work a minimum of 3 shifts a month with Variety (there is no maximum number of monthly shifts for float baristas)
Must be comfortable closing the cafe alone; our closing baristas spend the conclusion of their shift working solo behind the counter and performing duties by themselves in the store
New York Food Handlers’ license within 30 days of hire
Ability to lift 50lbs
Coffee knowledge is always a plus but not a requirement. We provide coffee training and continuing training to all of our cafe staff.

Compensation:
$17/hr + tips
