Job Description

We are looking to engage an experienced coffee shop manager or former café owner on a contract consulting basis to assess and improve the operational performance of a specialty coffee shop in New York City. The role is intended for a seasoned operator who can take an objective look at how the business currently functions and provide practical recommendations to strengthen efficiency, workflow, and overall service quality.

The consultant will spend time observing daily operations, evaluating how the shop runs during different shifts, and assessing how baristas and staff work together on the floor. This includes reviewing beverage preparation processes, customer service practices, ordering and inventory management, and general workflow behind the bar and in the café. The goal is to identify operational bottlenecks, opportunities to improve service speed and consistency, and ways to optimize staffing, training, and internal processes.

Following the operational review, the consultant will provide clear and actionable feedback on areas that can be improved. This may include recommendations for refining barista workflows, improving staff training practices, adjusting service flow, or implementing more efficient operational systems. The engagement may also include follow-up discussions to help guide the implementation of recommended improvements.

This is a contract-based consulting engagement rather than a full-time position. The scope of the work, duration of the engagement, and compensation will be discussed and agreed upon during the initial conversation, based on the consultant’s experience and the level of involvement required. We are particularly interested in speaking with professionals who have managed or owned high-performing cafés and have a strong understanding of the operational standards expected in the New York specialty coffee industry.
