Job Description

CADET Coffee is hiring a Lead Barista / Assistant Manager (part-time, ~20–25 hrs/week).
This is a hands-on role for someone who loves being behind the bar, but is also excited to help keep the shop running smoothly day to day.

We are a specialty multi-roaster cafe serving SEY, Tim Wendelboe, Tanat, Hydrangea, and rotating guests. We’re tucked inside a neighborhood bar, so the environment is dynamic, a little scrappy, and not overly corporate or polished. If that excites you more than it scares you, you’ll probably fit right in.

You’ll work a mix of barista shifts and light operational/admin hours, and will help support the shop when the owner isn’t on-site.

What You’ll Do:
• Work 2–3 barista shifts per week, often solo
• Make consistently excellent espresso, pour-overs, and milk drinks
• Deliver warm, thoughtful, guest-forward service
• Keep the bar clean, organized, and running smoothly

Plus (Lead responsibilities):
• Assist with weekly inventory and ordering
• Keep retail stocked, labeled, and displayed
• Help train new baristas and reinforce standards
• Help maintain consistency in opening/closing and daily operations

Requirements:
• Specialty coffee experience (dialing in, manual brewing, and ability to talk to customers about roasters, processing methods, and origins)
• Strong sense of ownership and reliability
• Comfortable working independently and making decisions
• Organized and detail-oriented
• NYC Food Handler’s Card
• Strong communication skills and a calm presence under pressure

Nice to have:
• Based in or near North Brooklyn, with some flexibility to occasionally stop in outside of scheduled shifts if needed

Pay:
• $21–24/hr (based on experience) + tips
