Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Lead Barista to develop and lead our coffee program, oversee daily coffee operations, maintain exceptional beverage quality, and help create an outstanding customer experience. The ideal candidate is a skilled coffee professional with strong leadership abilities and hands-on expertise in developing, testing, and crafting homemade coffee syrups and specialty beverage recipes. You’ll be the face of our café—welcoming guests, preparing espresso drinks, and helping showcase the best carrot cake in the world (yes, really).

Key Responsibilities

Coffee Program Leadership

Prepare and serve high-quality espresso beverages, brewed coffee, and specialty drinks.
Ensure consistency in beverage preparation, presentation, and service standards.
Train, mentor, and support baristas in coffee preparation techniques, customer service, and operational procedures.
Assist with scheduling, shift leadership, and daily café operations.

Syrup Development & Beverage Innovation

Develop, test, and produce house-made coffee syrups, flavor concentrates, and seasonal specialty ingredients.
Create unique beverage recipes that align with the café’s brand and customer preferences.
Maintain detailed recipes, production procedures, and quality-control standards for all house-made products.
Source ingredients and monitor inventory levels related to syrup and beverage production.
Ensure all homemade syrups and ingredients meet food safety and sanitation requirements.

Customer Experience

Deliver exceptional customer service and foster a welcoming café environment.
Educate customers about coffee offerings, brewing methods, and specialty beverages.
Handle customer feedback and resolve service issues professionally.
Operations & Quality Control
Maintain cleanliness and organization of coffee stations, equipment, and production areas.
Monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance as needed.
Assist with inventory management, ordering, and cost control initiatives.
Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
Bakery Support:
• Assist with displaying, slicing, and packaging our baked goods.
• Communicate with the kitchen team to stay updated on fresh bakes, stock levels, and specials.
• Keep display cases neat, stocked, and irresistible.
Cash Handling & Flow:
• Operate POS systems quickly and accurately.
• Manage lines and orders with calm, clear communication during high-volume periods.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of specialty coffee or barista experience.
Previous leadership, supervisory, or trainer experience in a café or coffee shop environment.

Demonstrated experience developing and crafting homemade coffee syrups, flavor infusions, or specialty beverage ingredients.
Strong understanding of espresso extraction, milk texturing, latte art and coffee brewing methods.
Knowledge of food safety, ingredient handling, and recipe standardization.
Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays.
NYC Food Handlers Certification

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in specialty coffee environments.
Knowledge of coffee sourcing, roasting, or cupping.
Experience with menu development and seasonal beverage programs.
Food Handler Certification or equivalent certification.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
