Job TItle: Area Manager, Retail Cafes
Location: New York, New York
Reports to: Director of Retail Cafes & Training

Summary
This position will work directly with the Birch Coffee retail managers (known as Coffee Shop Leads), shift leads, baristas, and cashiers in a dynamic and professional manner. This person will work closely with the Director or Retail Cafes & Training to see that policies and expectations are consistent with across all Birch Coffee cafes and ensure standards are met. The Area Manager is the point person for all things related to Birch Coffee cafes in their assigned area or cafes.

Essential Functions
Oversee and support Birch Coffee’s retail presence in your assigned area or cafes.
Help to ensure a consistent and outstanding customer experience company wide and drive continued improvement in our cafes.
Assist and execute cafe projects and initiatives
Ensure cafes are well maintained and that any maintenance requests are handled promptly. Ensure preventative maintenance is scheduled throughout the year.
Work alongside the Director of Retail Cafes & Training to develop and manage the retail team by providing day to day leadership and direction to Birch cafes, including but not limited to; cafe management, internal company coordination, and general operations.
Manage and lead a group of Coffee Shop Leads and their staff, including training when needed, coaching, reviews, employee development and performance management on any level.
Place orders remotely for cafes without Coffee Shop Leads
Communicate or coordinate with the Training Manager when baristas are ready to level up to shift lead.
Read and respond to cafe reports, communicate successes, challenges, and solutions to HQ Operations in a timely manner.
Work closely with the New Store Opening Team to open new cafes and assist in scheduling, training, working at the cafe to ensure a successful open.

Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years experience managing multi-units up to 3+ location at same time required
Minimum 3 years experience in a retail store leadership role
Customer service that is executed in a personal and professional manner
Demonstrates a passion and enthusiasm for coffee and customer service
Self-motivated and have excellent organizational and time management skills
Communicates professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing, including being able to take thorough notes and record observations
Have a flexible schedule and be willing to work Birch events on evenings, weekends, or holidays
Ability and willingness to travel to multiple Birch locations in a given day or week.
Open to criticism and constantly striving to improve the retail department
Experience in managing different projects concurrently, ability to work within deadlines, and most importantly have the ability to collaborate and work within a team
Experience in succession planning and leadership development a plus
Experience in top line revenue goals and SMART goals a plus
Construction management experience a plus

Physical Demands
Carry weight, lift – lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
Taste/Smell – ability to detect and perceive the smell of coffee
Standing – ability to stand for long periods

Work Environment
Work will take place in both office and cafe setting.
Work environments can be noisy.
