ASSISTANT CAFE MANAGER
Variety Coffee Roasters is a New York specialty coffee company founded in 2008 as a single cafe, and today roasting and serving our coffee at 10 of our own shops across 3 boroughs, as well as with dynamic wholesale partners of every shape and size. Variety is seeking as Assistant Cafe Manager (ASM) for our newest cafe in Greenpoint, Brooklyn at 190 Franklin St. The ASM is part of the leadership team overseeing the performance of their home store and will perform all management duties in the absence of the Cafe Manager. Whenever working on the floor, the ASM will help to oversee coffee quality, customer service expectations, cultural alignment, and cleanliness of their cafe.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
• Cultivate a healthy and fun work environment in line with Variety’s values
• Lead by example in all aspects of customer service (warmth, quality, speed)
• Model and Encourage top quality coffee preparation from others while on bar
• Maintain a positive attitude
• Work in concert with management to meet coffee quality and customer service goals
• Set a high example of cleanliness in the store and in general for other baristas
• Ensure the cafe is NYC DOH ready 365 days a year

Manager’s Right Hand
• Covering all cafe management duties when the manager is not available or not working including ordering, scheduling and communication with Variety HQ and retail leadership
• Work with manager to regularly share leadership workload
• Field Questions/concerns from staff and customers
• Other tasks and duties as needed

REQUIREMENTS
• Punctuality and professionalism
• Must be comfortable closing the cafe alone; our closing baristas spend the conclusion of their shift working solo behind the counter and performing duties by themselves in the store.
• Ability to work on foot and lift up to 50lbs
• Must have a flexible Schedule / Open availability including weekends, evenings, last minute shift coverage, and special events as needed.
• A demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team
• Leadership experience a plus

• Hourly pay starting at $21/hour
