Assistant Coffee Roaster – Join Devoción’s Roasting Team!

Devoción is revolutionizing specialty coffee by ensuring only the freshest beans are roasted daily. Unlike the industry standard, where green beans sit for over six months before roasting, Devoción roasts coffee just 10 to 30 days after leaving the dry mill at origin. This commitment to freshness and quality ensures that the hard work
of our farmers is fully translated into the final cup.

We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Coffee Roaster to join our team and support our mission of delivering the freshest and highest-quality coffee in the market. This role offers a unique opportunity to deepen your knowledge of coffee production while working closely with our Master Roaster.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of coffee roasting and profiling and will play a crucial role in maintaining quality and consistency in our coffee products. You will operate roasting equipment, monitor roasting processes, adjust roasting parameters, and assist in routine equipment maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
● Roast coffee under the direction of the Master Roaster.
● Set up and participate in quality control cuppings with our team.
● Communicate inventory levels with the Production Manager and/or Master Roaster.
● Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring the production facility remains in top condition (sweeping, organizing, and cleaning after each production run).
● Support team members to keep production running efficiently.
● Participate in machine maintenance and report any issues to prevent equipment malfunctions.
● Handle daily logistics and shipping tasks from the roastery to the packaging center, maintaining accurate records.
● Receive and record vendor deliveries with accuracy.
● Respond to last-minute demands and assist with additional duties as needed.

Requirements
● 3+ years of specialty coffee experience
● 1+ year of coffee roasting experience
● 1+ year of cupping experience
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office
● Strong attention to detail and quality control
● Understanding of Devoción’s core values, sourcing practices, and production standards
● Ability to foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment
● Strong personal hygiene and cleanliness practices
● Ability to read, write, and communicate in Spanish or English

Physical Requirements
● Ability to work night and weekend shifts as needed
● Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods (8+ hours per day, 5 days per week)
● Use of hands for manual tasks and ability to reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch
● Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs
● Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and ramps as needed

● Report any process that may pose environmental risks related to water, energy, waste disposal, or chemical handling
● Properly sort waste and contribute to sustainability efforts
● Suggest ideas to improve sustainability through Devoción’s internal channels
