Assistant Roasting Plant Manager – Jersey City
We are seeking a coffee roaster/assistant factory manager who is detail-oriented and self-motivated. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, roasting green coffee according to company profiles, maintaining green coffee inventory, and assisting the factory manager in the operations of the facility.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Roasting:
– Roasting daily according to the established profiles.
– Adhering to roasting schedule determined by the Production Manager.
– Operating roasters (proprietary Gothot designs) safely according to company rules.
– Assisting in and performing quality control analysis of each day’s roasts.
Inventory:
– Organizing green coffee in warehouse.
– Taking weekly and monthly inventories.
– Receiving and inspecting green coffee deliveries.
Maintenance/Cleaning:
– Performing regular maintenance and cleaning of roasting plant equipment, including roasters, vacuum sealers, fraction-pack machine, and others.
– Troubleshooting and developing a thorough understanding of the roasting equipment.
– Maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
Production:
– Working with Production Manager to ensure efficient fulfilment of daily orders.
– Assisting with the packaging of roasted coffee for retail and wholesale customers.
– Assisting the receiving, stocking, and transfer of any other supply or retail items.
Assistant Manager:
– All of the above, plus assisting with the daily production and management of the warehouse as the factory manager requires.
– Filling in for the factory manager for vacation, sick days, etc.
– Learning all the employees’ tasks in order to cover for vacation, sick days, etc.
Requirements:
– High School Diploma, basic PC skills, basic mathematics, reading and interpreting graphs. Roasting experience a plus, but not required.
– Fluency in Spanish is helpful, but not required.
– The work day starts at 7:00am and ends at 3:00pm, or until all the day’s work is completed.
– Physical requirements:
– Must be able to (team) lift bags of coffee (typically 132-154lb) to waist level, and repeatedly lift buckets of more than 50lb to load the roaster.
– Perform activities including: bending, stooping, light, moderate and heavy lifting and carrying, pushing, reaching above shoulder, and ability to do a repetitive motion.
– Ability to stand and walk for most of the day.
– Ability to work in a hot environment—the warehouse is not climate controlled in the summer.
