Underline Coffee is an independent shop dedicated to providing thoughtful, service, and a progressive coffee-centric menu. We roast our own Apes & Peacocks Coffee Roasters (www.apesandpeacocks.com) and showcase our coffee via our Kees van der Westen Mirage lever-operated espresso machine, and manual pour over (aeropress, kalita wave).

Our aim is to be one of the most passionate and approachable shops in the city, to always elevate our menu and our service, to be empathetic and gracious hosts. We aim to provide avenues for good coffee people to have fulfilling sustainable employment with opportunities to grow as coffee professionals.

Barista Job Description:

In addition to knowing basic brew science and technique as a coffee professional, you will be organized, punctual, a “self-starter,” and work behind the bar with a sense of urgency. You will be able to work with a variety of personalities and feel confident while receiving direction.

Looking for someone to:

have worked as a barista at a “third wave” shop at minimum of 1 year

show the humor and empathy necessary to being a good host

have a NYS Food Handler’s license

General Responsibilities:

After 6 mos we cover half the cost of Barista camp or SCAA Barista class, with commitment to compete as an Underline Coffee representative.

Provide support at developing your professional track, through business plan development, marketing, or any creative direction that we both can find shared interests. The position is meant to be a starting point for a coffee professional, and the goal is to move the candidate to the next level in his or her professional aim.
