Key responsibilities:

The Gumption Barista is driven to action, always looking at how to make service better and cleaner. Putting coffee at the center of their attention, they hone their skill to make the coffee shine. They understand their place in the chain of production, the importance of teamwork at the bar and how to balance these responsibilities with exceptional customer service. Baristas at Gumption should be self-motivated, curious and passionate about coffee. They will:

• Prepare for service at the start of shift
• Extract espresso to Gumption standards
• Steam milk to Gumption standards
• Complete and present drinks to customers
• Work with the Manager toward achieving the best espresso extractions for the shift
• Do shifts at the register: take payment for orders, ensure the correct amount is charged, the correct amount is paid, and the correct change given. Ensure all debit/credit transactions go through.
• Stay informed on products: offer new single estates for customers to drink, sell beans and retail accessories.
• Do backup & support shifts: serving drinks, collecting used dishes, washing dishes, cleaning tables and counters, preparing non-espresso coffee, preparing beans for sale, and other duties required by other team members.
• Maintain a clean, organized and well-stocked service area.
• Move with a sense of urgency in performing general duties, including but not limited to: wiping/cleaning station, routine back flushing of all group heads, washing up and overall shop cleaning and following store procedures.
• Perform end-of shift procedures.
• Promote and provide extraordinary customer service.
• Understand and demonstrate Food Safety practices.
• Other duties as required.

Competencies:

• Previous experience (minimum 1 year) as a barista in a high-volume cafe desired.
• Willingness to be trained and perform to Gumption standards of coffee preparation essential.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be able to work as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
• Eligible candidates should be available (and legally able) to work full-time including weekends.
