Job Description

Boris & Horton, New York’s first dog friendly coffee shop and community space, is looking for baristas with all experience levels for our Williamsburg and East Village Cafes.

In cooperation with the Department of Health, Boris & Horton serves coffee and food in a dog friendly environment. Our dog side features café style seating and upscale pet products while the cafe serves coffee from Variety Coffee Roasters along with light food and beer and wine.

The barista role includes, but is not limited to the following:

– Prepare coffee drinks and food by following the prescribed recipes and preparation techniques. Note that this role includes a fair amount of food prep
– Maintain the barista station and espresso machine, paying close attention to detail and around health code standards
– Regularly taste beverages to ensure quality.
– Ensure that inventory is properly stocked in order to maintain an easy customer flow (i.e, milk sugar, cups, napkins, etc). You must be able to lift heavy boxes and go up and down stairs with ease.
– Prepare all cold brew, drip coffee and ice tea batches for the days’ production: work with the team to replenish as needed throughout the day
– Display a positive demeanor and welcome every customer, no matter how busy you may be. Customer service is big for us!
– Have a strong understanding of the menu and make sincere recommendations
– Maintain all inventories throughout the day
– Keep the café clean and tidy throughout the day.

Requirements:
-Food Service experience in a fast paced environment. We’re not able to train someone from scratch for this role, but willing to accept people with a range of food and beverage experience.
– Third wave barista experience preferred
– Familiarity with coffee & espresso drinks, and manual machine experience
– Ability to work well alone and on a team
– Strong attention to detail and good time management
– NYC Food Handler’s License or a commitment to obtaining one 30 days after employment
– Must LOVE to keep a clean and tidy workspace.
