Job Overview

We are seeking a versatile, self-motivated Barista/Server to join our neighborhood Bar/cafe in Brooklyn. We are looking for a dynamic candidate with the aptitude and drive to handle a hybrid role. Altar is a cafe and brunch destination by day and bar and dinner spot by night. We have a mix of specialty coffee drinks, cocktails and a brunch menu that we serve Tuesday – Sunday from 8-3:30pm.

Ideally, you bring solid experience in at least two of these three areas: barista, bartending, or table service. If you don’t master all three yet, what matters most is your genuine willingness to learn, adapt quickly, and bring a great attitude to our team.

What We’re Looking For:

Warm Welcome & Hospitality: Bring a natural, welcoming energy and a cordial greeting to every guest, ensuring a positive neighborhood vibe from the moment they walk in.

Specialty Beverage Guidance: Act as a guide for our guests, confidently advising them on our specialty coffee drinks, craft cocktails, and menu offerings. Comfortable mixing cocktails from our select menu.

Multitasking & Floor Service: Efficiently take orders, run food, and serve tables with speed and precision to keep the floor moving smoothly.

Impeccable Cleanliness: Maintain a highly organized work environment, executing service with a “clean as you go” mindset to keep the bar and dining areas spotless.

Communication & Teamwork: Demonstrate excellent listening and communication skills, proving to be a proactive, reliable team player who supports coworkers.

Autonomy & Neighborhood Values: Work independently when needed while upholding the high standards of customer service and community values our loyal local clientele expects.

Growth Mindset & Readiness: Show a genuine desire to continuously train, expand your skillset across all three disciplines, and put new knowledge into practice on shift.

Hourly pay is $20 plus pooled tips.

(Note: NYS Food Handler’s Certificate and weekend availability are required.)
