Liz’s Book Bar, a small, independently-owned Bookstore, Wine Bar, and Coffee shop is
hiring in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.

We are looking for motivated, experienced, and passionate people who love interacting with customers and creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We have a small and intentional team, and are hoping to find someone interested in fostering community and growing with the store. Care and kindness are of the utmost importance to us at Liz’s.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have 1-2 years of service industry experience
• Have 1-2 years of barista/bar experience/experience with a manual machine (La Marzocco)
• Demonstrate cleanliness, efficient work flow, and a proactive approach to solving problems
• Demonstrate a high level of comfortability behind the bar interacting with guests
• Have their NYC Food Handler’s certificate
• At least one weekend day of availability
• Nighttime availability
• Have a passion for books and reading and a POV about which genres they prefer
• Bookstore experience not necessary but a huge plus

Responsibilities include:

• Preparing espresso drinks
• Serving beer and wine
• Preparing and serving light fare
• Shelving books
• Ordering books for customers
• Offering book recommendations to customers
• Writing shelf talkers for books you’re excited to recommend to customers
• Working events and occasional private parties
• Maintaining a clean space
• Assisting with social media posts
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor or General Manager

All applicants should understand that this job requires some manual labor, including lifting and carrying boxes. Employee benefits include discounted books, access to free advance copies, and access to free audio books. After three months of employment, option to contribute to a 401k.

Compensation: $16/hr + tips (avg. $8-10/hr)
