Job Description

We are looking for a lead barista with advanced levels of experience in a 3rd wave coffee shop. The candidate should show excellent hospitality and house cleaning habits. They are humble and curios. They are confident instructing and receiving instruction. They are positive, hard working, and profesional.

We want to provide an opportunity for a coffee professional to further their growth. Some of the opportunities available are: roasting, training and teaching coffee classes, competing as a barista or brewer in local and national competitions.

Looking for someone who has:

NYS Food Handler’s license

At least 2-3 years behind a contemporary coffee bar, with solid training

General Responsibilities:

Show by example how to balance the needs of making great coffee with providing stellar hospitality

Be a team player

Check coffees to profile, make recipe adjustments, clearly communicate adjustments to staff

Train new staff on:
Service
Elements of brewing
Various brewing techniques (Kalita, Aeropress, Espresso, etc.)
Bar flow
Milk steaming
Espresso
Latte art
Talking about coffee and updating on new coffees

Underline Coffee is an independent shop with a progressive coffee-centric menu. We roast our own Apes & Peacocks Coffee Roasters (www.apesandpeacocks.com) and showcase our coffee via our Kees van der Westen Mirage lever-operated espresso machine, and manual pour over (kalita wave). We are opening a second location this summer.

Our aim is to make things better, be passionate and approachable, to elevate our menu, to be empathetic and gracious hosts. We aim to provide avenues for good coffee people to have fulfilling sustainable employment with opportunities to grow as coffee professionals.
