Barista Trainer

Reports to: Head of Coffee Education                           Status: Full Time, Salaried

Job Purpose:  The barista trainer assists in the development and execution of all coffee and espresso training for both Saxbys cafes and wholesale partners. The barista trainer also assists in quality control of all coffee and espresso based beverages

Summary of duties and responsibilities:

• Assist in revising existing retail coffee and espresso training programs with a focus on improving quality of finished products, while deepening knowledge and simplifying practices where possible
• Assist in training existing Operations and Learning management teams on revised training program
• Work in collaboration with Learning team members to identify and train coffee and espresso trainers (train the trainers)
• Execute retail coffee and espresso training programs for new team members and new cafes as needed
• Work with the Head of Coffee Education and VP of Coffee to develop wholesale training programs for wholesale partners  
• Work in collaboration with Learning Department to continuously improve coffee and espresso education and training through all levels of Saxbys on an ongoing basis
• Work in collaboration with Operations Department to continuously improve coffee and espresso beverage quality control systems in cafes on an ongoing basis and as needed
• Dial-in and program equipment to Saxbys standards as needed for retail cafes and wholesale partners
• Plan and conduct educational events with team members such as cuppings and pairing classes
• Create, revise and maintain training materials as needed
• Communicate regular updates and all changes to HQ team, cafes, and wholesale partners
• Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and SCAA standards
• Constantly seek out education for self and other team members
• Additional projects and tasks as needed or assigned by the Head of Coffee education and VP of Coffee

• 2+ years of experience in specialty coffee 
• Possess an infectious passion for coffee that spreads throughout the entire Saxbys team
• Be knowledgeable of espresso preparation, milk steaming and latte art practices
• A willingness to learn and understand our guest base and their product preferences
• Ability to stand, walk and smile for extended periods of time
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Occasional travel is required which may include new café openings and trips to origin
