tera nyc is an oasis in the middle of new york city, located on 41 essex street manhattan, lower east side.

a cafe during the day + bar at night with an illuminated tatami listening room in the back.

the front space is a standing-height bar where the fast pace of people walking by are met with the scent of house baked financiers, coffee & tea.

each financier is presented on stone, as if they are pieces of compressed gold, inspired by a japanese/korean ingredient.

during the day, the illuminated tatami listening room in the back is a space to slow down. guests take off their shoes, sip precious tea and slow-drip coffee while vinyl of the day play calmly in the background.

at night, natural wine, sake and sool flow freely throughout the front & back space paired with small plates/snacks/anju.

natural ingredients and organic materials hug the space.

black fusion quartzite countertops, clay plaster walls and concrete floors are contrast with soft korean sambe textile and tatami.

staff adorn black textile shirts dyed as a team in house with korean soot, matching the coasters and napkins offered to our guests.

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Full-Time Barista to join our team. The ideal candidate has a deep appreciation for coffee culture, possesses excellent customer service skills, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is reliable for consistent shift coverage.

Key Responsibilities
Beverage Preparation: Expertly prepare and serve a variety of coffee, espresso, and tea beverages in accordance with established recipes and quality standards (latte art skills are a plus).

Customer Service: Greet customers warmly, take orders accurately, make recommendations, and handle payments efficiently using a POS system. Resolve customer concerns professionally and maintain a positive attitude.

Cash Handling: Accurately manage cash and electronic transactions, reconcile the cash register at the end of a shift, and follow all cash handling procedures.

Opening/Closing Duties: Perform routine tasks such as setting up and breaking down the coffee bar, cleaning equipment (espresso machine, grinders, brewers), stocking inventory, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Food Service: Prepare and serve light food items (e.g., pastries, sandwiches, basic prep) as required.

Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations, especially during peak hours. Assist in training new baristas as needed.

Compliance: Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene standards (NYC Food Handlers certification is a plus).

Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of proven barista experience in a high-volume café or coffee shop setting is strongly preferred.

Skills: Demonstrated ability to dial in espresso, steam milk to proper consistency, and execute drink orders quickly and accurately.

Work Ethic: Strong time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask effectively under pressure.

Availability: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays, and commit to a full-time schedule.

Communication: Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands: Must be able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform repetitive movements (bending, reaching).
