Job Description

KAI Gallery/ FitzG Coffee is looking for a dedicated, hardworking, enthusiastic individual to manage the new cafe located in our art gallery in SoHo. This position is great for an individual looking for the challenge of launching a new café and working with the gallery team to build the customer base and community. The ideal candidate should have experience managing a cafe, a passion for coffee, a positive attitude, curiosity to learn about the art world, a strong ability to take the initiative and manage independently, and an inviting personality.

 

FitzG Coffee is part of the new KAI Gallery at 78 Grand Street and is dedicated to serving the highest quality, unique Sumatran coffees with unsurpassed hospitality and knowledge. We also offer a carefully sourced selection of food and pastry offerings from a variety of local vendors. As manager, you will be the ambassador to patrons of the gallery as well as the café customers. You will have the unique opportunity to bring the coffee and art world together with a shared appreciation for a refined aesthetic and experience.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary staff person in the café and be able to work special events
  • Cultivate an exciting coffee environment and be a leader in the industry
  • Represent the Cafe to your staff and customers
  • Maintain operating expense and finance goals for the café
  • Work with café vendors
  • Manage cafe inventory
  • Supervise, lead, educate, review and inspire staff on a daily basis
  • Interview, hire and train employees based on cafe needs
  • Maintain cafe equipment and schedule for regular maintenance
  • Conduct staff meetings on a regular basis

 

Requirements:

  • NYC DOHMH Certificate in Food Protection
  • A passion for coffee and a curiosity for the arts
  • Significant experience managing a cafe (at least 1 year experience)
  • Ability to talk intelligently about coffee
  • Possess strong espresso/drink making skills
  • Ability to multitask in a complex environment
  • Ability to lead a team and cultivate a positive work environment
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Solid management, problem solving skills and communication skills
  • Positive attitude with a “no task is too small” outlook
  • Ability to take direction and constructive criticism well

 

Compensation

  • $15/hour
