Based in NYC with additional locations Chicago,  Los Angeles and DC, Café Integral aims to bring exceptional Nicaraguan coffees to the forefront of American coffee culture. With complete vertical integration, Café Integral’s approach stems from the grower’s perspective and sees the coffee through from shrub husbandry to the moment the beverage is served.

Our rigorous work at origin and commitment to the cultivation of coffee is at the core of our foundation. We source coffees from four of Nicaragua’s finest regions; known for their characteristic depth and balance, but also for their dynamic and complex profiles. The relationships formed here are close, familial, and involved; they represent a spirited exchange that allows us to grow together.

Our espresso bar aims to present our coffees with the same distinguished craft and consistent excellence we display at every stage, all the while breeding a sense of warmth and community that is at the core of Nicaraguan hospitality.

We are looking for a spirited professional to join our team as Café Manager at our coffee shop located in Nolita.

Position Summary

The Café Manager is a key player in our team ensuring the best service to our customers and bringing out the best performance from our staff. The ideal Café Manager is a professional passionate about specialty coffee and able to provide exceptional customer service, while leading the team in a quality driven, fast-paced environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee and lead retail staff and café operations.
  • Ensure Cafe Integral’s brand is properly reflected by keeping a well maintained, clean, well-organized and stocked coffee bar in line with visual standards.
  • Promote and follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products and equipment.
  • Work with café staff and ownership to achieve sales targets, address issues and suggest improvements required to increase sales.
  • Develop a motivated team committed to delivering outstanding service. Hire, train and manage staff, including performance feedback and disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Promote teamwork among staff.
  • Develop and maintain a healthy and productive work environment through clear communication with all employees and ownership.
  • Ensure the store – including bathroom – is kept immaculate at all times and opening & closing procedures are correctly executed.
  • Prepare and manage café staff schedule on a timely basis.
  • Propose ideas for new and improved beverage and food offerings.
  • Actively monitor food and beverage quality and help ensure standards are met.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret a P&L statement.
  • Ability to proactively manage and diagnose food and labor costs and make changes as needed, to achieve targets.
  • Carry out and enforce disciplinary protocol outlined in Café Integral’s Employee and Barista Handbook.
  • Learn and demonstrate thorough knowledge of coffee offerings and capacity to inform customers.
  • Participate in weekly coffee cupping.
  • Perform barista duties as needed.
  • Demonstrate an ongoing pursuit of education, training, and industry trends and willingness to share it with staff.

Requirements:

  • 2 Year minimum experience as a cafe manager
  • Energetic, approachable, pleasant personality and a passion for hospitality
  • Calm and focused demeanor
  • Team builder, experience and willingness to professionally develop employees
  • Reliable, dependable, organized, and punctual
  • Commitment to delivering excellent performance and exceeding standards
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and to climb stairs
  • Dedication and respect for customers and staff, which includes understanding and valuing empathy and applying it to your interactions on and off the job
  • Insatiable curiosity and willingness to learn new things
  • Flexible schedule – available to work full-time, weekdays, weekends, open and close shifts. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have Certificate of Safe Food Handling
