Job Description

Boris & Horton, New York’s first dog-friendly coffee shop and community space, seeks a full-time cafe manager. In cooperation with the Department of Health, Boris & Horton serves coffee and food in a dog-friendly environment.

Cafe manager duties include:

• Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by following NYC standards for food, drink and sanitation regulations.
• Managing a Cafe/Barista team (including training, development, workflows, checklists, etc.)
• Creating and contributing to the best customer experience possible; ensure all staff are following customer service expectations throughout.
• Ensuring cafe employees have their Food Protection Certificates (FPCs) behind the counter and that employees-in-training are in the process of getting their FPCs in a timely manner.
• Documenting training processes (training schedule, training checklist, machine cleaning instructions etc.) in a repeatable format.
• Preparing the full menu of coffee/espresso beverages, toasts, grilled cheeses and other light bites; proactive in continuing to streamlining processes regarding food and drink preparation from start to finish.
• Educating customers on our menu including our coffee/beverage selection, pastries, grab n go snack items; respond to any product issues immediately.
• Meticulously preparing and selling coffee according to recipes and techniques that you will be trained on.
• Maintaining clean and optimally performing equipment by following instructions, troubleshooting, maintaining supplies, performing routine maintenance, and more.
• High comfort level with troubleshooting tech around the cafe including but not limited to: Square POS, Android tablet, phone and internet connections.
• Performing all daily, weekly, end-of-month, and end-of-quarter inventory.

Traits and qualifications:
-Several years of food and beverage experience
-Food handlers license
-High level of comfort and experience working with dogs
-A genuine and upbeat personality. Every customer deserves a friendly greeting.
-Proven success in a fast-paced work environment
-Self-motivated, proactive, and organized, you should be able to prioritize and be adept at working independently
-Ability and passion for problem-solving, must think quickly and adapt to last-minute changes of direction
-Flexible schedule, collaborative spirit, and willingness to pitch in on a wide variety of tasks with no job too big or small attitude. Again, cleaning is a large part of this job.
-Strong communication skills
-Must be able to start ASAP
