CAFE MANAGER
Variety Coffee Roasters is a New York specialty coffee company founded in 2008 as a single cafe, and today roasting and serving our coffee at 8 (and counting) of our own shops across Brooklyn and Manhattan, as well with over 100 dynamic wholesale partners. At Variety, we believe that coffee should be fun. While we take our coffee seriously, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. Seriously.

The Cafe Manager is responsible for managing a team that provides excellent customer service and serves delicious coffee, overseeing a thoroughly clean cafe that is constantly NYC DOH ready, and ensuring that their Variety Coffee location is fully stocked and staffed at all times.

At Variety, managers work 4 weekly shifts on the floor, in addition to one scheduled admin day (so 5 shifts total). This is a full-time, hourly position reporting to the Assistant Director of Retail Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
LEADERSHIP:
Cultivate a healthy and fun work environment in line with Variety’s values
Lead by example in all aspects of customer service and in general
Model a positive attitude
Lead monthly staff meetings
Set clear performance expectations for baristas and provide them with regular feedback
Conduct bi-annual performance reviews with cafe staff
Use 15Five reporting tool to communicate with the Retail team

CAFE OPERATIONS:
Manage and carry out cafe scheduling
Oversee cafe’s overall inventory and ordering
Ensure that the cafe is fully staffed (with occasional coverage of unscheduled shifts in the event of emergency)
Be responsible for cash handling

STORE PRESENTATION:
Keep cafe in constant compliance with NYC DOH standards, meeting highest expectations upon inspection
Work with employees to ensure cleanliness expectations are being met
Ensure that any customer-facing area is always clean and presentable (this includes store fronts and sidewalks)
Perform some light maintenance duties and repairs and escalate larger issues to our facilities team

COFFEE QUALITY:
Work with Retail Trainer and Coffee Department to ensure the highest quality of coffee drinks in the cafes
Work with Coffee Department to ensure high level of coffee knowledge among staff

QUALIFICATIONS:
3+ years speciality coffee experience required
2+ years management experience preferred, however, we will train the right candidate
Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly

COMPENSATION:
Hourly wage of $23.00 plus tips. Out company-wide tip range for cafe managers averages between $10-$18/hour
Monthly, and quarterly and annual bonuses ranging from $100 – $1000 pre-tax based on clear targets
40 hours paid time off per year
Medical, vision and dental care coverage offered beginning 90 days from hire with an employer contribution of 50%
