Part-Time Barista — Cat Cafe (Lower East Side)
$21/hr — 2–3 shifts/week — Flexible scheduling

Koneko is a Japanese-inspired cat cafe on the Lower East Side, serving Stumptown coffee, ceremonial-grade matcha, teas from In Pursuit of Tea, and a small menu of house-made drinks and light food. We prepare most drink components in-house, from scratch — chai, syrups, bases (hot chocolate, etc.).

We use a La Marzocco Linea 2ee manual espresso machine, so experience with a manual espresso machine is a plus. The role also includes light food preparation for our small a la carte food menu.

We’re looking for an experienced, hard-working barista (minimum 1 year in coffee service) with strong customer service skills, a genuine love for animals, and a dependable work ethic.

Kitchen or cooking experience is a big plus but not required; a passion for cooking, even without experience, is also a helpful for the role.

Next to the cafe is our cattery, home to 15–20 adoptable cats rescued from NYC euthanasia shelters by our nonprofit partners. We provide a safe, welcoming space for guests to interact and de-stress with the cats. While baristas are not responsible for cat care, you’ll work alongside the cattery (separated by a glass wall) and are welcome to spend time with the cats during breaks or before/after shifts.

We’re a small, close-knit team, with many staff and customers who have been with us for years.

Given the nature of Koneko, most of our customers are animal lovers who come for a cozy and charming environment. Because of this, they tend to be more relaxed and easygoing than those at a typical cafe.
