Full-Time Coffee Education & Training Manager

Summary
The Birch Education & Training Manager is primarily responsible for cultivating, ensuring and training Birch standards amongst all retail staff and continuing education courses. This person will conduct all new hire training at our headquarters in Long Island City, NY as well on site in our Birch Cafes.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of retail experience working in specialty coffee
- Minimum 2 years experience in a retail store leadership or training role.
- Customer service that is executed in a personal and professional manner
- Demonstrates a passion and enthusiasm for coffee and training others
- Self-motivated and have excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to juggle multiple projects at once.
- Communicate professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing, including being able to take thorough notes and record observations.
- Be a welcoming presence as you will be onboarding new hires.
- Have a flexible schedule and be willing to work occasional evenings, weekends, holidays and Birch related events.
- Ability and willingness to travel to multiple Birch locations in a given day or week.
- Be open-minded and have a positive attitude, especially regarding coffee education, preparation techniques, and working with staff from many different backgrounds and with a diverse range of abilities.
- Open to criticism and constantly striving to improve.
- Continuously working to improve the Birch training curriculum and expand ways of streamlining the education department.
Primary Responsibilities
Quality Control & workflow standards/accountability (in-store and in Lab)
- Assist managers in standard enforcement/accountability
- Barista review/check-in
- Training Birch retail staff
- Lead retail focused classes/demonstrations
- Work with Coffee Shop Leads to utilize training time/classes efficiently
- Administer retail employee barista testing and onboarding.
- Collaborate with entire executive team on coffee standards
- Assist with Lab classes
- Report weekly updates and goals to executive team.
- Work hand in hand with the Director of Retail & Training to constantly improve and streamline the education curriculum.
- Lead public classes (cuppings, home brewing, introduction to espresso and intermediate espresso).
