Full-Time Coffee Educator
Job Description

Since then, our partnerships with farmers, producers, baristas, roasters, businesses, and customers have helped us grow and nurture a shared coffee culture and experience. As the Coffee Educator, you will oversee the coffee education department at Partners. This includes the education of our wholesale partners as well as our retail staff at our three Partners cafes. We’re looking for a self-motivated team leader who’s passionate about building an exceptional coffee education program and creating a friendly and welcoming space for people to learn about coffee. The ideal candidate is someone looking to cultivate a culture of education and coffee excellence, and to continue to build upon and grow our coffee education program and offerings.
Responsibilities
• Coffee Education
o Conduct training sessions with our retail staff on coffee, espresso, and milk preparation methods/standards (both on-bar and in our training facilities)
o Conduct training sessions for our wholesale partners in our training facilities
o Conduct occasional virtual classes and webinars for wholesale partners and ecommerce customers
• Coffee Standards & Quality Control
o Continue to build upon and improve retail and wholesale coffee education standards/expectations
o Cup and taste coffee regularly to maintain familiarity with product and quality standards
o Assist store managers in ensuring standards/coffee quality are upheld at all retail locations
o Assist sales and account management team with account drop ins and quality check ins
• Scheduling/Admin
o Coordinate the scheduling of training sessions (both wholesale and retail) by working with the store managers and Customer Service team
o Maintain a detailed system of reporting and performance tracking for our retail staff and wholesale partners
• Coffee Industry/Events
o Travel occasionally (via air, train, or driving) for wholesale partner trainings and coffee industry events (travel expenses, lodging, and per diem provided)
o Be a representative and brand ambassador for Partners at coffee industry events
• Other
o Partners is a team, and as such we sometimes call upon each other to help with various tasks outside our respective departments. A willingness to help out when needed is essential for this role
Job Requirements/Preferences
• A minimum of 2+ years experience in coffee education or similar position (retail and/or wholesale)
• A minimum of 5+ years experience in specialty coffee (managerial experience a plus)
• A comprehensive understanding of coffee origins, coffee processing, coffee roasting, coffee extraction principles, and coffee dialing in (both drip and espresso)
• Excellent barista skills, including knowledge of manual brewing methods, espresso brewing, milk steaming, latte art, barflow & efficiency best practices, and proper equipment cleaning
• Computer literacy (knowledge of Google Chromebook a plus)
• Familiarity with platforms such as Google Suite, Slack, and Asana preferred (but not required)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Solid organizational skills with tasks, projects, and time management
• An open mind and a positive attitude; the desire to make coffee accessible for all
• The desire to maintain a high standard of excellence and quality within our retail coffee program and our wholesale training program
• A passion and curiosity for coffee; always striving to learn more and to keep up with industry news and trends
• A love of teaching and ability to work with people from many different backgrounds and with a diverse range of abilities
• A valid driver’s license (highly preferred but not required)
