Full-Time Director of Operations and Education
Job Description
For the position of Director of Operations and Education, Pour Richard’s Coffee Company seeks a new team member, who is passionate about coffee and eager to develop new skills in retail management and coffee education.
Pour Richard’s Coffee Company was envisioned in 2005 as coffee enthusiasts, Richard and Jean, sipped their first self roasted Kenyan single origin coffee. This cup of java set the standard for Richard’s burgeoning hobby and passion. For the next ten years he would perfect the art and science of the roast. Friends, family, coworkers and passers-by eagerly arrived at the bar to join Richard for savory cuppings featuring roasts that are meticulously referenced in his very own Pour Richard’s Almanac. Pour Richard’s opened its first café in December 2013 and six months later was named 2014 Best Coffee Roaster in “Best of Main Line Today”.
Pour Richard’s Coffee Co. is a small batch, third wave roastery and café. We feature over 12 single origin coffees, 5 single cup brewing methods including Hario Halogen Beam Heated Syphon brewers and a Bunn Trifecta Infusion Brewer and 12 loose leaf tea offerings.
We have developed a series of coffee education classes covering coffee growing/production methods, grinders, brewing science and espresso.
Director of Operations and Education duties include:
– Management including: staff management, product selection, inventory, quality control, customer service.
– Training staff about barista duties, coffee industry, Pour Richard’s drink standards and specifications, shift and shop responsibilities, overall quality standards of the shop.
– Barista shifts on bar.
– Responsibility to carry out and/or manage staff/interns to carry out other operational activities, including:
o Events calendar (Coffee education classes, cupping and private events)
o Cupping Management (setting up, cleaning up, record keeping of cupping to support green coffee importing staff)
o Processing of online and wholesale coffee orders
Flexible 40-45 hours per week
The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong background in coffee retail, expert customer service, and a passion for coffee quality and coffee innovation and exploration throughout the coffee industry. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work independently and effectively and the leadership to manage colleagues in a balanced approachable manner. Strong barista skills are required (expert milk texturing, espresso science and more).
The new Director of Operations and Education will undergo a 3 month training program, expecting barista duties while managing basic café operations. After completing training, the Director of Operations and Education will graduate to manage all retail activities. All training paid. Hourly rate or salary will increase along with completed training and as new responsibilities are assumed.
After 1 year of service, perks of manager positions at Pour Richard’s Coffee Company include an origin trip at least every other year and attendance at industry events (CoffeeFest, SCAA, MANE, etc) along with other Pour Richard’s staff.
