Full-Time Director of Retail

Job Description

Variety Coffee Roasters is a New York specialty coffee roaster, founded in 2008. Variety currently has cafés in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick, Chelsea and the Upper East Side, as well as a roastery and training lab in East Williamsburg. Variety believes that coffee should be fun. While we take our coffee seriously, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. Seriously.

The Director of Retail will be responsible for the operations of all Variety retail locations. They will lead a team of cafe managers in creating a great customer experience, serving really really really good coffee, and maintaining Variety’s culture and values.

This is a full time salaried position reporting to the Managing Director.

Responsibilities Include:

Leadership

  • Cultivate a healthy and fun work environment in line with Variety’s values
  • Manage all cafe managers ensuring they are carrying out Variety’s policies and standards
  • Lead monthly manager meetings
  • Review weekly manager reports
  • Meeting 1:1 with managers once a month
  • Coffee Quality
  • Work with Director of Training and Coffee Department to ensure the quality of coffee in the cafes
  • Work with Director of Training to train all new baristas in accordance with
  • Variety’s training program

HR

  • Manager performance evaluations
  • Assisting managers with staffing cafes
  • Staff cafes with managers
  • Work directly with HR department to ensure Variety is creating a healthy and productive work environment

Sales/Retail

  • Analyze cafe sales patterns to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Grow same-store sales in accordance with Variety’s goals
  • Monitor ordering of goods to minimize waste
  • Work with Facilities Department to ensure stores and facilities are in good working order, in accordance with NY Health Department standards
  • Work with store managers to ensure appropriate store presentation and products
  • Strategize with Executive Team on new store locations and openings

Qualifications

  • 5+ years speciality coffee experience required
  • 3+ years management experience required
  • Experience with G-suit required
  • General computer skills required
