Description: Crop to Cup Coffee Importers seeks a NYC based cupper and sample roaster to assist our quality control team in Brooklyn. We call it freelance because this is a part time role without a set schedule, because hours (quasi-on call) will vary and be determined by the volume of samples flowing through our lab and the specialist’s own availability. The specialist will support our existing QC team including our lead cupper and sample roaster.

Our ideal candidate has both sample roasting and cupping experience. While sample roasting experience is strongly preferred, cupping experience of green offers (not just roast profile QC) is required. After cup calibration with our team, the specialist will be an integral part of our team as a cupper, sample roaster or both for evaluating offers, PSS and arrivals for supply chains in over 15 countries.

The Crop to Cup quality control team’s driving mantra is honesty. If you are someone who can be honest with yourself and others about what you are tasting in a coffee, then we’d love to have you join the team. We are looking for a taster/roaster who trusts their instincts, is excited about new flavors, and who isn’t afraid to say when they got one wrong.

Time: On call as needed, no minimum hours. With advance notice, and based around availablity of empoloyee.

For candidates looking to top up the schedule with more hours, note that there are additional hours available (outside of cupping and roasting periods) with the Crop to Cup/Showroom Coffee/Arc Roaster operational teams.

Requirements: Strong cupping experience/skills, Q-Grader preferred

Compensation: $40/hr for cupping/roasting, commuting expenses negotiable based on distance

Come learn the difference between processing trials at a single farm in Ethiopia, or how we build together exportable blend lots from a single cooperative in Papua New Guinea or Burundi. Taste offers at different quality levels and different price points from different exporters. Taste offers from new and upcoming coffee growing regions. Many (if not most) of the samples that come through the lab never go to our “spot” menu.
