Job Description

The Local NY is looking for bright, passionate, experienced baristas to run the cafe of our new, upscale hostel. The Local features a large café/bar to cater to guests as well as the LIC neighborhood. You’ll be the first and last people our guests see so an energetic, outgoing attitude is a must. 

The position will entail coffee/espresso/tea making as well as light food preparation. You’ll be working primarily on your own during a shift, so self-motivation and trustworthiness are a must. A large part of the job is interacting with guests, conveying excitement about the food and drink but also NYC generally. You’ll play an important role in our front of house team representing The Local and setting the mood for guests. 

We use a La Marzocco 2-Group Linea, Mazzer Super Jolly Grinders, and Bunn coffee makers/grinders. We’re currently working with Gimme Coffee, Battenkill Milk and Mem Tea. It’s important that you like coffee and espresso- you’ll be drinking a lot! We’d love to hire people with experience, but we’re willing to train you if you have the enthusiasm for it.

Working Conditions
The barista position will be paid hourly. Shifts will be 8 hours each and may include evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays. Healthcare and benefits will not apply. The position may require the following:
– Constant standing or walking
– Occasional stooping, kneeling, or crawling
– Occasional pushing, puling, lifting or carrying up to 40 lbs.
– Frequent, continual, intermittent flexing or rotation of the wrist(s) and spine
– Constant reaching, turning, and performing precision work around bar area
