General Manager
Start Date: Late July/Early August 2015
This position is full time and compensation is commensurate on experience. If you meet the requirements below, the starting weekly salary will be no less than $550. Health and dental insurance may also be offered. You will have the opportunity to influence how the business grows and work closely with the business owner. We have a great staff in place and a loyal neighborhood following.
Applicant Requirements: 21 years of age, New York City Food Protection Certificate, proficiency in coffee brewing methods, espresso drinks, familiar with using a semi-automatic espresso machine and machinery to brew coffee, passion for coffee, self starter, able to work independently, solid customer service skills, positive and professional attitude, and interacts well with the consumer
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1) Manage staff work schedule to fill all shifts with adequate coverage based on peak and non-peak sales periods. Confirm employee time sheets are correct.
2) Supervise and manage employees to verify completion of duties and following the daily checklist.
3) Comply with regulations from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to avoid violations and fines. Inform employees of beer and wine distribution policies and ensure they are upheld.
4) Inventory – Maintain adequate stock of all products based on demand and adjust orders to reduce waste. Manage staff to ensure that product is fresh and nothing is expired.
5) Manage and implement coffee program by selecting guest roasters for single origin/alternative espresso and pour over bar, experimenting with new brew methods, quality control of all beverages, and determining profitability of different kind of coffees to be sold in consultation with owner.
6) Report to owner regularly about staff, equipment performance issues, and provide relevant feedback from customers and staff about store operations.
7) Perform employee evaluations, document employee performance, assist in staff development/growth, and review with owner.
8) Execute daily cash handling procedures and deposit daily cash sales at bank at least two times per week. Maintain stock of coin wrappers, deposit slips, and change box has small bills and quarters.
9) Interview and hire additional staff pending owner approval.
10) Verify petty cash is stocked and items on the restock list are addressed promptly.
11) Train new hires to make quality coffee and espresso beverages and be knowledgeable about store operations using the New Hire Checklist.
12) Comply with the Daily Press Coffee Employee Handbook and ensure all employees do the same.
13) Assist owner with developing events and implementing them at the store.
14) Stay current with coffee industry and Inform owner of new products or services that could improve Daily Press Coffee and/or increase profitability.
15) Meet with owner to review store activities and prepare agenda to run staff meeting.
16) Assist staff behind the bar to reduce customer wait time during periods of high traffic.
