About Knomi
Knomi is the daily coffee and beverage shop for people who actually train, actually read labels, and would rather meet you here than text you. We serve specialty coffee alongside functional beverages with quantified, RD-certified ingredients. No “natural flavors.” No undisclosed blends. Every drink on our Signature menu is lab-tested, and the full ingredient list is on the wall. We are opening our first location in Chelsea.
The Role
You are the person who makes the bar run. You own drink quality, barista development, and daily coffee operations. You work directly with the founders and the store manager to bring the Knomi program to life, from pre-opening setup through daily service. Core decisions (roaster, equipment, menu architecture, beverage format) are in place. What we need is someone who takes all of that and executes it at a high level every single day.
What you will do
Coffee program. Dial in espresso, filter, and batch brew recipes. Maintain quality and consistency across every cup. You are the in-house standard for what a Knomi drink tastes like.
Functional beverage execution. Learn and execute our Signature beverage line. These are drinks with real, quantified actives (protein, magnesium, collagen, electrolytes), not wellness theater. You need to make them precisely and talk about them knowledgeably.
Team development. Help hire baristas alongside the founders and manager. Train the team on coffee preparation, Signature recipes, our ingredient policy, and customer interaction. Hold the quality bar. Give direct, constructive feedback.
Ingredient knowledge. Complete our ingredient curriculum during onboarding. Be able to explain any ingredient on the menu when a customer asks. At Knomi, the barista is also the wellness educator.
Daily operations. Opening and closing. Inventory and ordering. Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. DOH compliance. Keeping the space clean, organized, and inspection-ready.
What we are looking for
3+ years in specialty coffee, with at least 1 year in a senior barista or lead role
Strong technical skills: espresso, milk texturing, latte art, manual brew methods, equipment calibration and basic maintenance
Genuine interest in functional nutrition and wellness beverages. You do not need a background in this. You need to care about it enough to learn it and explain it to customers
Experience training and developing other baristas
Comfort with operations: scheduling, inventory, ordering, POS, opening/closing
NYC Food Protection Certificate (or willingness to obtain before opening)
SCA certification preferred. If you do not have it, Knomi pays for it within 60 days
An active wellness practice in any form: running, lifting, yoga, cycling, cooking, nutrition, meditation. We hire people who care about their own wellness because that care extends to customers
A pre-opening mindset. Comfortable with ambiguity, good at solving problems, willing to build systems that do not exist yet
