Head of Coffee Education
Reports to: Director of Coffee
Status: Full Time, Salaried

Job Purpose: The Head of Coffee Education leads the development and execution of all coffee and espresso training for both Saxbys cafes and future wholesale partners. The Head of Coffee Education is also responsible for quality control of all coffee and espresso-based beverages.

Summary of duties and responsibilities:

• Revise existing retail coffee and espresso training programs for Saxbys cafes with a focus on improving quality of finished products, while deepening knowledge and simplifying practices where possible
• Train existing Operations and Learning management teams on revised training program
• Work in collaboration with Learning team members to identify and train coffee and espresso trainers (train the trainers)
• Work with the Director of Coffee to develop wholesale training programs for future wholesale partners
• Execute coffee and espresso training programs for team members, new cafes, and wholesale partners as needed
• Work in collaboration with Learning Department to continuously improve coffee and espresso education and training through all levels of Saxbys on an ongoing basis
• Work in collaboration with Operations Department to continuously improve coffee and espresso beverage quality control systems in cafes on an ongoing basis and as needed
• Assist with the opening of new cafes by training new team members and working alongside them for an as needed period of time. Extended travel required.
• Dial-in and program equipment to Saxbys standards as needed for retail cafes and wholesale partners
• Plan and conduct educational events with team members such as cuppings and pairing classes
• Assist in planning and execution of educational origin trips with Director of Coffee
• Compete in or coach other team members in Saxbys sponsored local and national competitions
• Create, revise and maintain coffee and espresso training materials as needed
• Communicate regular updates and all changes to HQ team, cafes, and wholesale partners
• Be a representative barista at special events, openings and trade shows as needed
• Maintain expertise of current trends and SCA standards
• Constantly seek out education for self and other team members
• Additional projects and tasks as needed or assigned by the Director of Coffee

• Deep knowledgeable of espresso preparation, milk steaming and latte art practices
• A willingness to learn and understand our guest base and their product preferences
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Up to 50% travel required
• 5+ years of experience in specialty coffee
