Full-Time Lead Barista

Dig Inn – Posted by DigInnCareers Anywhere

Job Description

Overview

You have the power to make someone’s world a little better through the power of caffeine. As a Dig Inn Lead Barista, you’ll be responsible for the full coffee program at Dig Inn–and you don’t take that responsibility lightly. You’re the person always checking out new coffeeshops on the weekends, and your knowledge of beans (both green and roasted), brew methods, and experience in third wave coffee is strong. A love for great food and deep love of coffee will have you crunching numbers and grinding beans with equal enthusiasm. The Executive Chef will mentor you as you grow, whether you’re desirous of owning your own coffeeshop or getting into the kitchen.

Our kitchen is designed using the classical Brigade system–which means no matter where you start out with us, you have a clear career path with mentorship and growth. This classical kitchen hierarchy system allows everyone at Dig Inn the chance to learn culinary and leadership skills. As a barista, you’ll have the opportunity to grow into leadership positions through our coffee program and beyond. We know you have a bright future in mind, and can’t wait to be a part of it.

A Day Inn the Life

  • Step into the restaurant with a smile on your face and a pep in your step
  • Take charge of your domain–from calibrating the espresso machine (aka your baby) to keeping everything beautifully organized
  • Manage inventory, ordering, quality, equipment maintenance, and training (with ongoing educational classes from Counter Culture, you make sure your team is always up to speed and in the know)
  • Make each and every guest’s day great with friendly conversation and flawless execution of coffee, Matcha, and tea drinks
  • Sample current menu offerings, chat seasonality, and share promotions–you can’t wait to tell your regulars about how delicious the new seasonal pastry is with our Counter Culture iced coffee
  • Be a team player–keep the café area running smoothly and help out when other Brigade leaders need you
  • Go home feeling fulfilled (and full)
  • Learn, grow, and rise in the ranks

The Dig Inn Way

We serve seasonal American food, mostly vegetables, from farmers and partners as close to home as possible. We believe our food choices have the power to leave the world a little better than we found it. Our mission is to train the next generation of cooks, chefs, and restaurateurs, and help small and mid-sized farms scale sustainably. From paddock to plate, we’re building community.

It’s taken a lot of work (and Brussels) to arrive where we are. But this is only the beginning. We’re looking to make a big difference in the food industry, and we need your help.

The Nitty Gritty

  • Follow Dig Inn and health department standards
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Walk up and down stairs, lift loads up to 50 pounds, and push and pull carts and equipment up to 100 pounds
  • Work with dish detergent in a 3-compartment sink.
  • Bend and stoop to grasp objects, bend and twist neck and waist, reach above and below shoulders, and squat
  • Use hands repetitively for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation
  • Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors, etc.)
