Hi!

Café Porcelain is a new (opening in August) counter-service café in Queens focused on providing the highest quality, most genuine specialty coffee experience in the neighborhood of Ridgewood. We have brought in excellent food, design, and wine team members, and we are looking for a coffee professional that will act as both the lead operational barista and manager of part-time barista roles. The lead barista role is responsible for all client interaction, as all coffee, food, and wine will be delivered via the bar.

We are just as passionate about people’s experience as we are our product. That said, we are looking for someone that both values personal connections and has a genuine love for making quality coffee. The lead barista role will provide technical guidance to new team members and assist in the training program.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to leverage your barista experience to grow and train a team poised for success in a well-designed space comfortable to work in. Pay is very competitive, and though time requirements are full-time, you will be staffed as a part-time employee making you eligible to garner tips. You will operating the new San Remo F18 two-group espresso machine and three grinders.

Service:

  • Greets all customers with fast, friendly, personalized service and develops a rapport with our customers by learning their names, favorite drinks and food items.
  • Verbally receives and calls back customer orders in a friendly manner.
  • Reports all customer complaints to manager on duty.
  • Responds proactively to prevent customer service situations.
  • Accurately rings sales orders into cash register and counts back change to customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Answers telephone in a courteous and friendly manner including, but not limited to, giving store greeting, directions to store location, and receiving and filling customer orders.
  • Answers customer questions regarding coffee blends, preparation, and product freshness.
  • Weighs, grinds and packs coffee per customers’ orders according to guidelines.
  • Sells and serves baked goods and miscellaneous food items to customers.
  • Maintains efficient, friendly service standards and demonstrates such standards when training other team members.

Product:

  • Educates our customers on the details of our beans and coffee options.
  • Weighs, grinds and packs coffee per customers’ orders according to guidelines.
  • Sells and serves baked goods and miscellaneous food items to customers.
  • Sells and serves products to customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Continues to learn and educate themselves on whole bean knowledge, coffee blends, tea products, bakery items, coffee brewing, and blended products.
  • Participates in all sales promotions effectively and efficiently.
  • Safely handles all hot and cold drinks during drink preparation.
  • Ensures that all customers are educated on our products and services.
  • Maintains the highest quality, consistent product standards.
  • Follows all company drink recipes and procedures.

Environment:

  • Provides superior services and promotes a friendly, comfortable environment by providing fast and friendly service. Perpetuates company guiding principles and house roles.
  • Restocks shelves, when necessary.
  • Routinely cleans the bar area, floor, windows and grinders, and takes out trash.
  • Assists in the distribution of weekly shipments and maintains a clean and organized storage room.
  • Reports potential safety hazards to the manager on duty.
  • Reports all employee accidents to the manager on duty.
  • Informs the manager on duty of any operational inconsistencies.

Requirements, Qualifications & Physical Demands:

  • Valid and current Food Handlers Permit for New York City.
  • Runs errands, when needed.
  • Works special events, as needed.
  • Maintains positive morale.
  • Must be able to work overtime, as needed.
  • Minimum of two years experience in a customer-facing barista role.
  • Minimum of two years working in a coffee or café establishment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, communicate and train fellow team members.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented.
  • Register and cash handling experience.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to use hand to finger motions, handle or feel objects, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move items up to 30 pounds.
  • Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust and focus.
  • Regularly required to handle food and hot beverages.
