Full-Time Lead Barista

Job Description

Porcelain is a specialty coffee concept focused on introducing a competition-level coffee experience to the neighborhood of Ridgewood, Queens. We are seeking a motivated, lead barista to join our team as a full-time employee. This is a career-building role for professional baristas seeking to own the operations behind the bar.

We are the proud launching pad of Redefine Coffee roasters, supplying 86+ scoring beans. Pay is very competitive, with high volume tips. This role reports directly to the owner.

Equipment:

  • San Remo F18 3-group machine
  • Redefine Coffee beans
  • Royal Tea Company & Brew Tea Company leaves
  • Two Mazzar grinders and one Mahlkonig grinder
  • Battenkill Valley Creamery milk, Oatley, Califia almond, Pacific soy, Doma chai and turmeric

Service:

  • Very proficient in modern milk steaming method and latte art with dairy and non-dairy milks.
  • Helps team write down recipes for teas, cold brew, etc. to maintain consistency and quality of output
  • Greets all customers with fast, friendly, personalized service and develops a rapport with our customers by learning their names, favorite drinks and food items
  • Can responsibly hold and maintain a company credit card, and file invoices of orders in the office file.
  • Assists the owner in building and maintaining the employee schedules.
  • Verbally receives and calls back customer orders in a friendly manner.
  • Reports all customer complaints to the manager on duty.
  • Responds proactively to prevent customer service situations.
  • Accurately rings sales orders into cash register and counts back change to customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Answers telephone in a courteous and friendly manner including, but not limited to, giving store greeting, directions to store location, and receiving and filling customer orders.
  • Answers customer questions regarding coffee blends, preparation, and product freshness.
  • Sells and serves baked goods and miscellaneous food items to customers.
  • Maintains efficient, friendly service standards and demonstrates such standards when training other team members.

Product:

  • Educates our customers on the details of our beans and coffee options.
  • Weighs, grinds and packs coffee per customers’ orders according to guidelines.
  • Sells and serves baked goods and miscellaneous food items to customers.
  • Sells and serves products to customers in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Quickly learns and tastes the full food menu. Must be proficient on menu items and ingredients, quickly able to cite contents of each dish to customers asking.
  • Continues to learn and educate themselves on whole bean knowledge, coffee blends, tea products, bakery items, coffee brewing, and blended products.
  • Participates in all sales promotions effectively and efficiently.
  • Safely handles all hot and cold drinks during drink preparation.
  • Ensures that all customers are educated on our products and services.
  • Maintains the highest quality, consistent product standards.
  • Follows all company drink recipes and procedures.

Environment:

  • Provides superior services and promotes a friendly, comfortable environment by providing fast and friendly service. Perpetuates company guiding principles and house roles.
  • Restocks shelves, when necessary.
  • Routinely cleans the bar area, floor, windows and grinders, and takes out trash.
  • Assists in the distribution of weekly shipments and maintains a clean and organized storage room.
  • Reports potential safety hazards to the manager on duty.
  • Reports all employee accidents to the manager on duty.
  • Informs the manager on duty of any operational inconsistencies.

Requirements, Qualifications & Physical Demands:

  • 2-years experience in a specialty coffee senior barista role required.
  • Runs errands, when needed.
  • Works special events, as needed.
  • Maintains positive morale.
  • Must be able to work overtime, as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, communicate and train fellow team members.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented.
  • Register and cash handling experience.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to use hand to finger motions, handle or feel objects, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move items up to 30 pounds.
  • Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust and focus.
  • Regularly required to handle food and hot beverages.
