Full-Time Lead Barista
Job Description
Common Hours is a new specialty coffee shop in midtown Manhattan with a focus on quality, accessibility, and inclusivity. The space is slated to open mid-August, and we’re looking for experienced lead barista candidates to help establish and develop a detail-oriented and welcoming environment while overseeing and inspiring a small team of baristas. This role would benefit from candidates that have a vision of and genuine interest in the future of the coffee industry.
What You’ll Do:
1. Lead Operations & Workflow
– Oversee smooth shift operations: opening/closing routines, task delegation, and checklist completion.
– Oversee service flow to ensure consistently high quality, cleanliness, and safety throughout the shift.
2. Team Leadership & Coaching
– Support, train, and mentor baristas: from onboarding to daily best practices.
– Coordinate breaks, position rotation, and staff deployment.
– Serve as a role model for professionalism, efficiency, and guest service.
3. Inventory, Equipment & Cash Management
– Monitor inventory, use FIFO storage, and report restocking needs.
– Maintain and clean brewing and espresso equipment.
– Handle cash drawer operations and daily deposits.
4. Customer Experience & Hospitality
– Deliver exceptional service by proactively anticipating and meeting guest needs.
– Resolve customer questions or minor concerns, offer communication and understanding.
5. Culture, Values & Compliance
– Foster a team environment grounded in caring, respect, and continuous growth.
– Implement health, food-safety, and cleanliness standards – including local regulations.

Requirements:
* Experience: Barista or coffee service experience (1-2 years); supervisory background preferred
* Schedule: Ability to work full-time (32-40 hrs/week), available for weekday, weekend, and some holiday shifts
* Physical Ability: Comfortable standing for long shifts and managing café/tools
* Skills: Leadership, cash handling, inventory tracking, equipment maintenance/upkeep
* Regulatory Fit: Eligible to work in NYC; NY Food Handlers Certification
