Full-Time Lead Coffee Roaster

Job Description

Black River Roasters is an organic, artisan coffee-roasting company based in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey.  We specialize in organic and Fair Trade certified coffees as well as ultra-premium coffees sourced from small-yield cooperatives and estates.  We maintain the highest level of quality control while roasting our coffees.  Our goal is to provide you with the finest cup of coffee in the most environmentally friendly way.

 Black River Roasters is looking for a Full-Time, Lead Coffee Roaster, who is highly focused and detail oriented.  Applicant MUST love coffee or be extremely interested in all things coffee.  Previous experience with a Diedrich IR12 roaster a plus, but not a must.
       
        Duties & Responsibilities include but not limited to:
 
  • Oversee roaster operation, scheduling of roasting according to incoming orders to ensure smooth production flow and to meet inventory requirements.
  • Set up the roaster using established procedures as guidelines & making adjustments as needed.
  • Monitor each roast, making adjustments to the roaster settings as needed to ensure quality.
  • Prepare various coffee blends according to established formulas.
  • Participate in roasting quality standards.
  • Cup all roasted coffee to ensure quality standards.
  • Clean and perform regular maintenance on Roaster and other equipment in the roasting area per maintenance schedules and as directed by Manager.
  • Train and supervise assistant roasters.
  • Help package roasted coffee.
       Requirements:
 
  • Passion for continuous improvement in people and processes.
  • Ability to learn basic knowledge of all coffee roasting profiles & quality standards from our master roaster.
  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent mechanical skills to troubleshoot and problem solve.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of position such as standing, walking, bending, and stooping daily in addition to ability to lift up to 100 pounds throughout the work day.
  • Previous experience in a production environment with flexibility to meet changing production schedules and job assignments without close supervision- highly desirable.
        Salary:
  • Starts at $15/Hour + depending on experience.
