Part-Time P/T Barista

Job Description

Currently hiring for a part-time barista at Split Eights, a new(-ish) coffee bar by day/cocktail bar by night, located on a residential block in the heart of the Financial District. With ownership and staff experience in NYC cafés, cocktail bars, and fine-dining, the ideal individual to join our coffee program would share our passion for providing high-end hospitality in a community environment. 

We are currently hiring specifically for the Monday-Wednesday shifts, 7:30am to 3:30/4pm. There is the potential for transitioning into a full-time position in the future. 

Duties & Responsibilities to Include:

  • Crafting balanced quality espresso drinks using local roaster Parlor Coffee, and maintaining quality control in accordance with the standards of third-wave coffee, tea, and (minimal) cocktail service
  • Assisting in cash-handling, customer transactions, stocking, cleaning and clearing, and other general café duties
  • Providing consistently efficient and warm service, equipped with knowledge of the product and establishing the customer experience
  • Creating an inclusive environment for customers and co-workers alike
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace, both behind the bar and front of house
  • Following health and safety guidelines for all spaces, products, and equipment
  • Opening the café and assisting in the transition to evening service

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 1-year experience as a speciality coffee barista; NYC service experience preferable
  • Ability to dial in espresso, and sufficient experience on a La Marzocco or equivalent espresso machine(s)
  • Excellent work ethic and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently in all café positions
  • Respectful, detail-oriented, and reliable personality
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and move 50 lb. minimum and climb stairs
  • Ownership of NYC Food Handlers Card (or willing to obtain one after hire)
  • Ideally be able to pick up/cover shifts if needed
  • A taste for cocktails is not required, but is very welcome!
  • No racists, no sexists, no assholes. Zero tolerance on all adjacent garbage.
