PARK SLOPE CAFE MANAGER

Variety Coffee Roasters is a New York specialty coffee roaster founded in 2008. Variety currently has cafés in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick, Chelsea, Park Slope and the Upper East Side, as well as a roastery and training lab in East Williamsburg. At Variety, we believe that coffee should be fun. While we take our coffee seriously, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. Seriously.

The Cafe Manager will manage our newest cafe in Park Slope, Brooklyn. We’re seeking someone who is excited to help us establish ourselves in a new community, and set a standard of excellence new customers can come to expect. Variety’s cafe managers are responsible for providing excellent customer service behind the bar and demonstrating best coffee and tea preparation practices. In addition to leading a team, the Manager will be responsible for maintaining the cafe’s overall cleanliness, inventory and schedule. This is a full-time hourly position reporting to the Director of Retail Operations.

Responsibilities include:

LEADERSHIP
Cultivate a healthy and fun work environment in line with Variety’s values
Lead by example in all aspects of customer service
Keep a positive attitude
Lead monthly staff meetings
Set clear performance expectations for baristas and provide them with regular feedback
Give 6 months performance evaluations to baristas
Use 15Five reporting tool to communicate with Director of Retail Ops

CAFE OPERATIONS
Responsible for cafe scheduling
In charge of cafe’s overall inventory and ordering
Responsible for staffing the cafe
Responsible for cash handling

STORE APPEARANCE + CLEANLINESS
Work with employees to ensure shift change cleanliness expectations are being met
Ensure that any customer-facing area is always looking clean and presentable
Keep cafe in constant compliance with NYC DOH standards, meeting highest expectations upon inspection

COFFEE QUALITY
Work with Retail Trainer and Coffee Department to ensure the quality of coffee drinks in the cafes
Work with Coffee Department to ensure high level of coffee knowledge among staff

QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years speciality coffee experience required
2+ years management experience preferred, however, we will train the right candidate
Ability to lift 40+ lbs regularly

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Hourly wage of $21.00 plus tips
40 hours paid time off accrued per year
