La Cabra NYC is looking for a driven candidate to join our Front of House team in the East Village, Manhattan, as a Porter and Cafe Assistant. This role will start primarily as a cafe assistant and dishwasher, where you will be responsible for a myriad of tasks including: dishwashing, opening/closing tasks, food prep, running/clearing tables, etc. This job will be both BOH and customer facing, providing a unique learning opportunity. The chosen candidate will work closely alongside the baristas, and remain in the tip pool the entirety of their shift. This is an entry level position, but the ideal candidate will grow out of this position into a full-time barista role in time.

Our Soho coffee bar is part of a wonderful new venture in the city, with a larger coffee bar and more seating than our well-loved bakery in the East Village. With a roster of quality-focused wholesale clients around the world, a reputation for our quality light-roast coffees, two retail locations abroad, more international retail development underway, La Cabra aims to always serve and deliver the best quality possible, while also growing enough to offer lots of opportunity to our employees.

Key areas of focus in this position will include working closely with the rest of the FOH team to create a uniquely dedicated and warm culture, conversing with guests, teaching guests about coffee in approachable ways, working with and managing a complex and rotating coffee menu, and managing the POS system. The successful candidate will have a positive can-do attitude, strong interpersonal skills, highly structured working habits, and the desire to work and grow with a dedicated team of quality-driven baristas and bakers.

Responsibilities and tasks:

• Work alongside our FOH team to create a customer-service forward cafe environment that is warm, personable, and inviting to everyone
• Work alongside baristas to ensure all food orders are made accurately and quickly, and delivered to tables correctly
• Maintain the dish/prep area throughout the day
• Closing/Opening cleaning tasks
• Work quickly and efficiently through very busy days
• Maintain high levels of cleanliness, and organization of work area, adhering to sanitation/health regulations, and company policy
• Be available to assist baristas and leadership with varied tasks each day
• Create an upbeat and positive coffee shop environment

Qualifications and experience required:

• Experience with light-roast coffee is preferred, but not required
• Experience working in cafes, restaurants, or other hospitality environments
• NYC Food Handlers Permit

Compensation:

• $16-17/hour + tips

Schedule needs: 

• Full time and part time
• Available to work starting as early as 6AM
• Weekend availability

Physical Demands:

• Able to stand and walk around the entire cafe for up to 8 hours at a time
• Ability to move quickly with hands and feet
• Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry heavy objects (up to 50 Lbs).
