Full-Time Quality Control Trading Assistant

Job Description

Louis Dreyfus Company, a privately held firm involved primarily in the international trading and merchandising of agricultural commodities, is looking for a Quality Control Trading Assistant to join the team in the Wilton, Connecticut Office.This position is responsible for ensuring the efficient and accurate management and execution of contracts with suppliers, dealers and roasters for the Specialty Division.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for quality control which involves managing the sample room functions. Performs sensory and physical quality analysis of Green Coffee purchases.
  • Communicates QC results proactively via phone, email reports, develops relationships with both suppliers and customers
  • Monitors the physical shipment of coffee delivery from origin to client, develops and monitors process to ensure adherence to contract schedule.
  • Ensures seamless sales contract execution, follows up to obtain approvals from clients; regularly sweeps position for open sales and unexecuted contracts.
  • Assists with identifying new coffee types, blends. Promotes and supports sales function by building customer relationships leading to new business.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates trade shows and client visits, volunteers with industry groups such as SCAA, Roaster Guild, CQI, etc.
  • Monitors developments within industry, including new competitors, customers and other trends.
  •  Assists traders with communicating sample and contract status with both suppliers as well as customers.
  • Assists with the development of offer lists, and preparation of quality reports.

Required Skills

The following are the required qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Solid understanding of Green Coffee characteristics, including quality, origins and preparations
  • Knowledge of coffee import/export documentation and procedures and U.S. Customs procedures
  • Familiarity with legal contracts
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and accounting software (e.g., Word, Excel, CATS)

The following are the preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze problems and negotiate solutions
  •  Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet strict daily deadlines independently
  •  Detail oriented
  • Ability to speak read and write in Spanish

 

Required Experience

The following are the required qualifications:

  • Knowledge of coffee in a retail or laboratory environment
  • Experience with roasting and cupping of green coffee
  • Experience with sensory testing of coffee or food products

The following is the preferred qualifications:

  • Quality certification including CQI, SQF, etc.

 

Working Conditions

  • Typical climate-controlled office environment.
  •  Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects (especially during month-end and year-end closes), attend training or to respond to emergencies
  • Spends prolonged periods of time on the telephone
  •  Domestic and/or international travel may be required
