KL5 Coffee provides sales, support, and service for specialty coffee equipment users in both the commercial and high-end home user realms throughout the NYC Metro area.
Serving the NYC Coffee Scene since 2015, KL5 Coffee has experienced steady growth. We have recently moved to our 2000 sq. ft. facility in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This expansion has allowed us to grow our repair center, add a new Retail shop, and expand our showroom and training facility all while continuing to offer excellent onsite service and support to existing clients.
KL5 Coffee works with some of the best retail locations and roasters in the NYC area, from large outlets like Blue Bottle Coffee and Stumptown, to smaller specialty roasters such as SEY Coffee and Parlor.
Job Overview
Espresso and Specialty Coffee Equipment Service Technician, with a customer-service focus.
A KL5 Coffee specialty coffee technician provides technical service and maintenance on specialty coffee equipment, most commonly: espresso machines (commercial + home), coffee brewers, coffee grinders, hot water towers, and specialty commercial cafe equipment (i.e. Poursteady, Perfect Moose, PUQpress).
What you will encounter in the position:
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, test, and service of specialty espresso and coffee equipment. (See equipment list below) This will take place in the field and in-shop.
- Receive, accept, schedule, and complete field service assignments
- Inventory updating and create parts lists for ordering to be submitted to our Shop Manager
- Customer interfacing (often while working on equipment)
- Communicate findings, suggestions, and systems to customers and KL5 team
- Record, in great detail, the work performed during on-site and in-house repairs including time spent, parts used/needed, diagnosis, electrical measurements, etc.
- Equipment R&D
- Equipment refurbishment
- Working with the owner in Tech Team Management and scheduling
Position Requirements:
- Tech Experience: At least 2 years full time experience with espresso tech-ing. We are looking for a Tech Team Leader that can hit the ground running and take on a full roster of jobs.
- Barista Knowledge: Dialing in a good shot of espresso.
- In Shop Service Technician / Field Technician: Receive, accept, and complete field service assignments by repairing, servicing, and problem-solving specialty espresso and coffee equipment in-shop and in the field of both quiet and bustling environments.
- Tools: Must have your own tools as well as systems to keep them accessible and organized on-site (We can help with a starting tool list as needed).
- Physical Knowledge: Candidates should know how to lift things. 50-70lbs machines will have to be moved, either through innate strength or knowing how to utilize leverage. Able to perform the following functions: Stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, pushing, standing, feeling, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, climbing, balancing, bending and repetitive motions.
- Self-Direction: Person should be self-directing and able to shift gears day to day
- Communication: Clear and consistent communication is important not only with clients but the entire KL5 Coffee team
- Creative Thinking Skills: This position will require someone that likes to have a variety of tasks, able to switch between tasks, and can think and problem-solve creatively.
- Schedule Flexibility: Work with the owner to coordinate specific set time/days to create a consistent schedule. This may include a weekend day.
- Customer-Facing Experience: This position requires someone with a personality that allows for friendly, pleasant, professional interactions, KL5 Coffee has been built on its customer service and any one that accepts the position will be assisting in maintaining the reputation.
- Equipment + Service Education: Continue to learn and expand knowledge-base to service, repair, and problem-solve in new and various coffee machines and equipment. This may also involve: Equipment refurbishment, Manufacture training sessions, Developing detailed repair guides (both PDF and possibly video guides), and Equipment R&D
- Shop Organization: work with KL5 Coffee shop manager and team to create sustainable parts organization systems that can grow with the company
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of Service Technician Experience a must. Specifically with some, but not necessarily all, of the following: La Marzocco, Slayer, Mavam, Rocket, Synesso, FETCO, Mazzer, Mahlkonig, BUNN
- Innate curiosity to want to figure out how things work
- Organized with a mind for figuring out systems (digital and physical)
- Strong communication skills
- Previous barista experience
- Strong (Did I say Strong, I meant Incredible) customer service skills
- Ability to read manuals, parts diagrams, and wiring schematics
- Communicate and work with manufactures and tech services via phone to problem-solve
- Leadership skills
- A love of learning
- A love of coffee
- A desire to be part of a growing company
This is not a Training Position.

Job Type: Full Time
Salary: Starting at $50,000 – $68,000. Based on Experience.
