Job Description
DEVOCION – FULL-TIME TECHNICIAN
We are currently seeking a full-time technician to perform service on weekends and during part of the business week, for our internal technical needs, as well as the needs of our growing wholesale clientele. The ideal candidate has strengths in coffee equipment knowledge; electrical & plumbing knowledge; strong customer service; enjoys the challenge of resolving issues; diligent, self-sufficient and organized with a passion for expanding their knowledge of the coffee world.
Job Duties:
• Provide both proactive and reactive technical support on coffee equipment
• Perform routine maintenance on internal and wholesale equipment
• Perform emergency service as needed on internal and wholesale equipment
• Interact with clients in a positive manner and maintain customer relationships
• Communicate effectively with all internal departments to ensure emergency service, preventative maintenance and quality control issues are solved in a timely manner
• Respond to clients requests via emails or calls
• Document all work
• Respond to emergency service calls 7 days a week
• Bench test machines if needed
• Reports to Sales Manager; training with Service Technician
Requirements:
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a technical service support role
• Driver’s License required; car preferred
• Must be available to work weekends* (*key to the current open position) and flexible to travel in and out of state
• Ability to troubleshoot coffee equipment and delegate problem solving with ease and understanding
• Ability to troubleshoot coffee brewing issues and resolve basic coffee skill issues
• Extensive knowledge of coffee machines, including espresso machines, coffee grinders, drip brewers, hot water towers, and other related equipment
• Strong technical skill and aptitude; ability to absorb and integrate new technical information quickly
• Proficiency with tools, machinery, electricity, and plumbing
• Strong organization and time management skills, and impeccable work ethic
• Strong communication skills, including flexibility to the changing needs of the company and its clientele
• Basic computer & technology skills
• Creative mechanical solutions (familiarity with MacGuyver not required, but preferred…)
• Must love coffee
Physical Requirements
• Lift 75 lbs. or more
• Lift over 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 30 lbs. regularly
• Stoop, bend, kneel, squat, crouch, and reach regularly
• Repetitive Motion
• Visual Acuity: must be able to see and identify issues up close and far away
• Hazards: moving parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, high heat, chemicals
• Close quarters and other areas which may cause claustrophobia
Preferred Experience
• 2+ years of barista experience in a specialty coffee shop
• Technical training or certifications with major coffee manufacturers
• Coffee certifications with major specialty roasters or organizations (including but not limited to: SCA, BGA, Q Grader)
• Enthusiastically involved in the coffee community. Attends local coffee events, lectures and/or competitions.
• Enthusiastically interested in and follows development of coffee technology
• Familiarity with NYC DOH rules and regulations; Food Safety Certified a plus
• Spanish speaking a plus
• High School Diploma, GED, or higher
