Parlor Coffee is the sum of its parts: we are a small team dedicated to raising the bar of coffee culture in New York City and across the country by sourcing, roasting and delivering the finest coffees for wholesale partners from coast to coast. Founded in 2012 in the back of a Brooklyn barbershop, Parlor Coffee has evolved into the wholesale-focused company it is today. Our roastery and headquarters near Brooklyn’s Navy Yard hums along five days a week with production roasting, quality control analysis, coffee education and wholesale management all happening under one roof. We are a close team which adheres to the belief that the success of our business is propelled by our collective commitment to quality coffee, quality work and quality relationships.

Job Overview

Parlor is hiring two Tasting Room Hosts who will serve the visiting public during our Roastery’s weekly open hours on Sundays. This is a part-time position: our Tasting Room is currently open on Sundays only.

Parlor’s Hosts are ambassadors of Parlor Coffee and an embodiment of our mission. You will work directly with our Head of Education to execute a proficient service while sharing knowledge and disseminating industry expertise for our guests. This position is first and foremost hospitality-driven: our Tasting Room presents the sole regular opportunity for the public to experience our coffees as served by members of the Parlor team.

Core Responsibilities

  • Focus on developing relationships with our guests while constantly communicating in a positive and supportive manner
  • Expertly relate stories and flavor profiles of each offering on our menu
  • Meticulously qualify wholesale inquiries as Parlor’s first point of contact in the Tasting Room
  • Brew delicious filter coffee and espresso
  • Accurately record brewing parameters and measurements
  • Report weekly to Head of Education
  • Participate in regularly scheduled all-staff cupping calibrations
  • Maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of Parlor’s seasonal offerings.
  • Maintain cleanliness of Tasting Room equipment, facilities and retail shelves.

Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of barista experience
  • Displayed passion and enthusiasm for coffee
  • Mission-driven team player with a positive attitude
  • Strong work ethic and the willingness to pitch in to support colleagues
  • Unwavering attention to detail
  • Must communicate promptly, effectively and respectfully with all customers and members of the Parlor team
  • Ability to complete work independently with broadly defined work objectives and limited oversight
  • Meticulous about details and follow up; subscribes to the belief that no task is too big or too small
  • Willingness to build and execute proficient barista skills which adhere Parlor’s practice and methodology
  • Must reside in New York City
  • Ability to effectively multitask
  • Must understand the importance of constructive feedback
  • Appreciation for good company culture
  • Punctuality and ability to present oneself in a professional environment

Thirty Day Goals

  • Satisfactory completion of internal education coursework
  • Firm grasp of Parlor’s mission, sourcing practices and wholesale program
  • Possess a robust knowledge of Parlor’s current offerings lineup

Compensation

$16/hour + tips with opportunity for increase after 90 days.
