Job Description

Variety Coffee Roasters is a New York specialty coffee roaster, founded in 2008. Variety currently has cafés in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick, Chelsea and the Upper East Side, as well as a roastery and training lab in East Williamsburg.
Variety believes that coffee should be fun. While we take our coffee seriously, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. Seriously.
A Cafe Manager will be responsible for providing excellent customer service behind the bar, and demonstrating best coffee and tea preparation practices. In addition to leading a team, the Manager will be responsible for maintaining the cafe’s overall cleanliness, inventory and schedule.

This is a full-time hourly position reporting to the Retail Director.

Responsibilities Include:

Leadership
Cultivate a healthy and fun work environment in line with Variety’s values
Lead by example in all aspects of customer service
Keep a positive attitude
Lead monthly staff meetings
Give 6 months performance evaluations to baristas

Cafe Operations
Responsible for cafe scheduling
In charge of cafe’s overall inventory and ordering
Responsible for staffing the cafe
Responsible for cash handling

Store appearance
Work with employees to ensure shift change cleanliness expectations are being met
Ensure that any customer facing area is always looking clean and presentable

Coffee Quality
Work with Director of Training to ensure the quality of coffee drinks in the cafes
Work with Coffee Department to ensure high level of coffee knowledge among staff

Qualifications
3+ years speciality coffee experience required
2+ years management experience preferred, however, we are willing to train the right candidate.
