Variety Coffee Roasters is a New York specialty coffee company founded in 2008 as a single cafe, and today roasting and serving our coffee at 9 of our own shops across 3 boroughs, as well with dynamic wholesale partners big and small. Variety is seeking a manager for our newest cafe on Amsterdam Ave. in the Upper West Side. Our cafe managers model excellence in every facet of the barista role for their cafe team. In addition to leading a crew of baristas, they are responsible for general QC at their cafe, overseeing inventory and staff scheduling, as well as maintaining overall cleanliness and NYCDOH readiness at all times. Our cafe managers work 4 shifts on the floor in addition to one scheduled weekly admin day for a total of 5 shifts per week. This is a full-time, hourly position reporting to the Assistant Directors of Retail Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership
• Cultivate a healthy and fun work environment
• Lead by example in all aspects of customer service and in general
• Model a positive attitude
• Lead bi-monthly staff meetings
• Set clear performance expectations for baristas and provide them with regular feedback
• Conduct bi-annual performance reviews with cafe staff

Cafe Operations
• Manage and carry out cafe scheduling
• Oversee cafe’s overall inventory and ordering
• Ensure that the cafe is fully staffed (with occasional coverage of unscheduled shifts in the event of emergency)
• Be responsible for cash handling

Store appearance
• Keep cafe in constant compliance with NYC DOH standards, meeting highest expectations upon inspection
• Work with employees to ensure shift change cleanliness expectations are being met
Ensure that any customer-facing area is always clean and presentable

Coffee Quality
• Work with Retail Trainer and Coffee Department to ensure the quality of coffee drinks in the cafes
• Work with Coffee Department to ensure high level of coffee knowledge among staff

REQUIREMENTS
• Must be comfortable closing the cafe alone; our closers spend the conclusion of their shift working solo behind the counter and performing duties by themselves in the store.
• A demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team
• 3+ years speciality coffee experience required
• 2+ years management experience preferred, however, we will train the right candidate
• Must have a flexible Schedule / Open availability including weekends, evenings, last minute shift coverage, and special events as needed.
• General punctuality and professionalism
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly and work on their feet

COMPENSATION:
• Hourly wage of $23.00 plus tips.
• Monthly, weekly, and quarterly bonuses ranging from $100 – $1000 pre-tax based on clear targets
• 40 hours paid time off per year
• Medical, vision and dental care coverage offered beginning 90 days from hire with an employer contribution of 50%
