Job Posting: Barista

We are searching for a barista with superior hospitality skills, specific experience in the specialty coffee/tea industry, and an eagerness to develop an in-depth understanding of our products.  They must be fully capable of communicating our brand and our products with exceptional customer service, enthusiasm, and kindness.  We are looking for someone who is self-motivated to grow as both an individual and a part of the company.  They must be passionate about preparing coffee and tea with meticulous attention to detail, and they must be willing to educate themselves and others on how to continually push the limits of brewing and extraction. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about fostering a positive environment for both customers and other team members.

We are looking for someone who is able to work part-time and who is available for weekend shifts.  This person will be the primary weekend contact and will be responsible for opening and closing the cafe on Saturday, and Sunday, with the addition of one other week day.

Product:

• Offer tea knowledge and experience, as well as actively pursue further tea education
• Offer coffee knowledge and experience, and willingly partake in all coffee education
• Follow all Company food and drink recipes and procedures, maintaining the highest quality and consistent product standards
• Develop an understanding of the basic technical functions of our machines and products
• Develop an understanding of our various types of coffee, and tea, as well as pursue knowledge of coffee/tea regions, sourcing, profiles and variations in preparation
• Attend trainings to further understand and operate AD’s machines
• Taste beverage and food products on a per shift basis for quality assurance

Store Operations:

• Execute sales to meet or exceed store budgetary goals
• Responsible for all shifts scheduled, including arriving on time, taking necessary breaks, and working for the entirety of the shift
• Must demonstrate excellent cash handling skills & judgment
• Handle POS duties and media for both front and back of house
• Follow all opening and closing procedures with meticulous detail
• Maintain a clean, well-merchandised store, following visual presentation plans and standards
• Willingness to undergo training outside of regularly scheduled shifts
• Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
• Eagerness to educate others and offer insight where needed
• Promote and practice safe work habits, promptly communicating potential safety hazards, operational inconsistencies, and any team member or customer incidents

Qualifications:

• 3 years Barista experience in specialty coffee and tea
• Strong Tea experience preferred.
• Must be approachable and work well with a team
• Have a NYDOH food handler’s certificate
• Proficient on a computer; familiar with software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Able to work overtime, including weekends, evenings and special events as needed.
• Well-organized, detail-oriented and able to multi-task.
• Must have effective problem-solving/decision-making abilities.
• This position will require frequent standing and use of hands and arms.
• Must be able to stand for a prolonged period of time, lift up to 30lbs, frequently bend and twist from the waist, and frequently use arm, hand and finger motions to feel and reach objects
• Must be able to adjust vision to both day and night lighting, and be able to focus on distant and close-range projects. Regularly required to handle food, hot beverages, and work with sharp objects.
• Must have excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  -Demonstrated ability to learn and lead.
